In a landmark move, the Delivering United Access to Lifesaving Services (DUALS) Act of 2024 has been introduced, heralding a significant expansion in the reach of the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Crafted with bipartisan effort and the commendation of the National PACE® Association, this groundbreaking legislation promises a future where elder care transcends boundaries and bureaucracy. Key facets of the DUALS Act include mandating all states to provide PACE to qualified individuals, flexible enrollment dates, extended eligibility, and streamlined application processes for PACE organizations. Such enhancements magnify the PACE program's commitment to integrating care effectively for “dual eligibles,” who are concurrently covered by Medicare and Medicaid. Well worth watching ITV’s coverage of the state of pharmacy in England and its implications for patient care. (ITV Tonight Thursday 11 January). The daily challenges our partners, colleagues and patients face are laid bare. Tonight - Series 26 - Episode 2 - ITVX Hopefully politicians, Ministers and officials were watching and now accept that urgent action needs to be taken to preserve a pharmacy network in England which is core to essential NHS care, advice and services. Eight pharmacies closing each week surely has to be a cause for concern. Pharmacy First in England is of course welcome but needs to be underpinned by a financially viable core contract. And the section in the programme on the situation in Scotland, where community pharmacy is embraced by the NHS as an integral part of primary care provision which is supported by appropriate funding and professional development, provided a stark contrast to the situation in England. It shows what a real partnership approach can achieve in the best interests of patients”. https://lnkd.in/e76fUuR4

"Public health saved your life today and you didn't even know it." This challenge of the invisibility of #publichealth is something I've come up against over and over again in my career, particularly in my work in #vaccines and other areas of #preventive care. How do you quantify the impact of interventions where success is invisible? How do you convince funders and policymakers to keep investing limited resources in these unsexy but critical programs, rather than diverting them to the next shiny new thing? What do you do when you become the victim of your own success? So excited to dig into this new PBS #documentary series about how public health makes modern life possible but remains tragically underfunded, undervalued, and misunderstood.
