I recall when I started my career as Marine Engineer, two decades ago, the challenges were to learn technical and operational concepts, to get acquainted about maritime guidance rules, to understand machinery realibility/performance, to get a hands on maintenance experience, and additionally, to get the ability to speak/listening and also to show off a reasonable english background on writing a technical report, otherwise, you would be "outdated". Today the Marine Engineers must be knowledgeable enough to overcome their career's challenges that are many, and now the DP rules/conceptions are one more thing that turned up to stay and be permanently part of our capabilities once we're the key DP staff which have to look after for the safe operation 24/7. What more is about to come? A little bit old, but bright and gold. Thanks, Subsea7. #challenges #DP #DPVM #Chiefengineer #MarineEngineer

Hello, People, today I will be sharing some good tips regarding SIMOPS meeting, one of the most important meetings when you are in the offshore field. What is the meaning of SIMOPS ? SIMOPS = Simultaneous operations Once you come onboard, there is a daily meeting that is known as SIMOPS meeting. In this meeting, we shall discuss all the activities that are going to be executed on the next days. SIMOPS (Simultaneou operations) are described as the potencial clash of activities which could bring about an undesired event or ser of circumstances, safety issues, environment conditions, damage to assets, schedule, commercial, financial, etc. SIMOPS may come about as the result of the following issues: - Schedule clashes: Activities in same area at the same time; - Phisical clashes: Anchor patterns, loss of position; - Failure impacts: Explosions, leakages, gas, etc; - Interferences between platform operations and vessel operations; - Contracts and third party interfaces: liabilities, risk/insurance; - Environmental impacts: Currents, icebergs, weather conditions; - Territorial clashes: 500m zone, existing infrastructure; And any other combined/simultaneous activity in the area of operation which could compromise the success of the project. For example, 3 days ago we had a lot of raining onboard on our vessel region, so as Planner Offshore or Project Supervisor, you shall plan in advance all jobs if possible to be done under covered areas to avoid loss of manpower. Anothe example is, hot work and painting work cannot happen at the same time and location. As Planner Offshore, everyday we shall present this meeting in order to verify all these points. “If you do the same thing over and over again, you cannot expect different outcome.” #PlannerOffshore #ProjectManagement #FPSO #OilandGas #MaintenancePlanning Atlas Professionals do Brasil MISC Group MODEC Trident Energy SBM Offshore TechnipFMC Yinson Production Altera&Ocyan Karpowership

Working as an offshore operator can be intense and demanding at times. It might involve running around in the rain to ensure everything is functioning smoothly and the plant remains stable. There are times when a 10-minute lunch break is all you get, and breaks are non-existent if things go wrong. However, this job also fosters a unique bond with your unit. Keeping it alive and well becomes more than just a duty—it's a responsibility you embrace deeply, something that may end up going beyond being just a job you get paid for. It's a strange but fulfilling connection, and despite the challenges, I wouldn't trade it for anything. #offshore #offshorelife #oilandgas #operator

Watch as this skilled personnel makes a precision landing from a hovering helicopter, a testament to the courage, coordination, expertise, and teamwork required in offshore jobs.💪 To us, this is what true teamwork looks like.💪 It’s the combination of rigorous training, unwavering focus, and trust between colleagues that makes complex maneuvers like this possible. This is just another example of what it takes to keep the energy flowing, no matter the challenges. 👷♂️🌍 📌PS📌 Did you know? Over 1 million offshore oil and gas workers are transported globally each year. Helicopter operators, which are a significant part of offshore personnel transport, report handling tens of thousands of passenger flights annually. For instance, in the North Sea region alone, it has been reported that helicopters make around 50,000 to 70,000 flights annually for offshore personnel transportation. As a professional working offshore have you ever executed a landing from a hovering helicopter? What was the experience like? In which situations is the "fast-roping" technique employed? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments. 📹© Petroleum Gallery #OffshoreLife #SafetyFirst #OilAndGasIndustry
