This rejection led me to quit my job and start a business In 2016, I came across a very unique F&B concept that was quite unknown. I felt that more people needed to know about the brand so I reached out and asked if they would be open to freelance public relations support. At that point, I had worked in various PR agency and inhouse communications jobs. I got rejected by this F&B brand. They said that they didn't have the budget to hire PR help. At that moment, I had a fleeting thought of doing PR for SMEs and startups at a smaller fee than what bigger agencies typically charged.. 🤔 Nothing happened after that. It was just a thought. Shortly after, I created a card game for seniors because my grandma has dementia and I was really interested in the ageing space. 🧓 I got the card game featured in loads of media publications. Many small business owners started reaching out to me when they saw my coverage.📰 I then started taking on freelance PR projects for these businesses and somehow started Grow Public Relations. Today, Grow PR is a cosy team of 13 people across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines. CEO: Should we hire a full-time videographer if we want to do video? Me: Nope But here’s what I would do instead… First of all, the traditional “Videographer” role for a B2B company is dead No need for fancy equipment No need to pay a marketing company thousands of dollars to film you twice a month either What has replaced the videographer is the modern day Content Director This person records you and your team throughout the week using mostly a smartphone, but is also trained on how to use social media as well And best case scenario….they are INTERNAL We’ve hired and trained several Content Directors for clients over the past couple of months and when we measure their video performance against companies that “Outsource their content” it's not even close We typically pair this person with a video editor/specialist in the Philippines that does elite level editing and for less cost than someone here in the states.
