Unleash the potential of people and processes for social impact | Facilitation - Consulting - Training
Brussels is getting empty. Work life here is slowing down. Most of the projects with clients have been wrapped up, some are in estivation mode and will pick up again towards the end of August, some will yet have to be kicked off. Less active client work means more time for myself, reflecting on what's happened so far this year, dreaming about what is yet to come, and for developing new ideas and approaches that I could offer to my clients. In fact, a lot of the methods I use when working with clients, I also apply to myself and my business. By walking the talk, I feel I can be of better, more authentic service to my clients - and ensure that I stay aligned with my values, mission and vision. Everything is interconnected. ♻️ 👉 How do you take advantage of quieter periods in your professional life? #ReflectionTime #BusinessDevelopment #WalkTheTalk

I moved away from Sweden. My journey here with my partner began with high hopes and excitement for new adventures, but little did I know the obstacles that awaited me. Moving to Stockholm was a significant change for both of us. We relocated from London because my partner had landed a job, and I began the daunting task of navigating the Swedish job market. We gave ourselves a year for me to find work, but with a wealth of international experience from a career in London, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, I anticipated a seamless transition. However, reality had other plans. Months stretched into a year, and — despite my best efforts — interviews and job offers remained just out of reach. My confidence dwindled with each rejection, and I sat in my kitchen every morning consumed by feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Time seemed to stand still as I struggled to find my place in Stockholm. In December, my partner and I decided it was time to leave Sweden. It came down to the harsh reality that my potential was just not being recognized or valued in the Swedish job market. After two short months of applying for work back home, I had a promising job offer. The recognition and validation I longed for in Stockholm were finally within reach elsewhere. As I start the next chapter of my career, I carry with me new resilience from my time in Sweden. It may not have been the home I had hoped for, but it taught me the power of belonging and inclusion. Those are precisely the issues I will focus on in my new role back home, and I am stronger and more determined than ever to pursue my dreams and make a meaningful impact wherever life may take me. For now, as I sit down to reflect on the whirlwind of emotions and challenges I faced in Sweden, I can't help but feel a sense of bittersweet relief in leaving. — This story was originally shared as part of the 1046 Sverige Inclusion Campaign. Unfortunately, we hear stories like Nikita Mehta’s far too often. It deeply saddens us but also motivates us to keep working to make a change in the Swedish labor market. We want to see international experience fully valued, so that these stories can end with a job offer and making a home in Sweden, instead of the decision to leave. #1046Sverige #DiversityAndInclusion #Berättelser #1046Stories

Bonus Tips ⤵️ 📍Join local expat groups, clubs, or social events to meet people and build a support network. 📍 Attend local festivals, visit museums, and try Swiss cuisine to immerse yourself in the culture. 📍 Set up your utilities (electricity, water, internet) and understand the recycling and waste disposal system, which is strictly regulated in Switzerland. It may seem a lot for the first month of your relocation, but taking care of these essentials will help you settle in smoothly (based on my experience.) A few insights from my trip to Brussels 🇧🇪 Spending 3 days in Brussels to meet our new partners and explore the local creative hubs, ecosystems, and networks, I've come to a few subjective conclusions: ⚙ Prioritize business, thus emphasizing the ecosystem. I realized that just having square kilometers and tables isn't sufficient for a productive environment. The queue at the coffee bar, communal lunch tables, and shared spaces are crucial. Networking, communication, and cohesion are the keys. 😫 Poor service. Currently, this city has the worst services among the 100+ cities I've visited. The receptionist at the 5-star hotel, a lady I found quite cute, shouted at me when I wanted to book a table for a breakfast (which is included). 🙄 Politics is a dirty game, nothing new. However, witnessing this within the walls of the European Parliament only reinforced my feeling of it being a circus. Yet, the Ukrainians working there are magicians. Thank you for your incredible work. Now, I'm expecting more projects: it seems we'll have much more work ahead and will need more smart and ambitious professionals. Any talented project managers and communications professionals who want to work at the dynamic NGO? Ping me :) #ecosystem #ngo #brussels #businesstrip

The Expat coach | Helping Expats Thrive in Suisse Romande🇨🇭| Empower your journey with 1:1 coaching!
If you are currently living in Suisse Romande as an expat, chances are you will meet a ton of other interesting international folks through work or friends of friends. But let's be honest – that expat bubble can feel a little…well, temporary. Every few years, you'll have to restart from scratch when your “old friends” move on to new countries. It is therefore in your interest to meet local people, and one of the best places to do so is through volunteering. Here are some reasons why it rocks: #Reason1: you can meet countless fascinating people. Find folks who share your passions, whether it's helping animals at a shelter or tending a community garden or giving a helping hand at the biggest music festival in the region, Paleo. #Reason2: French immersion, on the house Practice your French in a natural setting, not a stuffy classroom. You can butcher pronunciation or grammar as you want, very likely it will be much easier accepted. #Reason3: Boost your resume (and Ego) Giving back looks fantastic on your CV and makes you feel like a total rock star. Win-win. #Reason 4: Create memories with local people living in your city or neighbourhood Having a fun day together doing something meaningful is genuinely the way to make friends. Still not convinced? No sweat! Finding volunteer gigs is easier than navigating a fondue fountain. Websites like "https://lnkd.in/eZAViU6v" connect you with organizations across Switzerland. Remember: Volunteering is a two-way street. You'll be giving your time and skills, but you'll also be walking away with unforgettable experiences and new friends. So take the plunge, find a cause you dig, and start making a real difference! And don't forget to have fun along the way. #SwissLife #ExpatAdventures #VolunteerHero #GiveBack #LocalLove #SwissCulture #LanguageLearning #NewFriends #MakeADifference
