Today, we are highlighting another rescue story from our OAA Board Members! Ten years ago, Stretch was among a litter of abandoned kittens, each needing a loving home. Despite his striking appearance and friendly demeanor, Stretch remained unadopted due to an injured leg, likely caused by mistreatment. At Friendly Paws Pet Supplies & Grooming in Athens, Stretch found a home. Over time, he transitioned from a hopeful adoption candidate to the cherished shop cat! His role expanded beyond the shop when he assisted in cat testing at the local dog shelter, making dogs more adoptable by demonstrating their compatibility with cats. Stretch's journey from a stray kitten to a beloved companion highlights the transformative power of compassion and dedication to animal welfare. His story inspires us all to continue supporting animals in need and ensuring they, too, find love and security. #adoptdontshop #animalwelfare #cats #rescue #kitten #nonprofit #rescuestories #felinefriends

Alarming rise in abandoned pets sparks 'crisis point 😨😨😨😨 Animal rescue centers in the UK are facing a crisis due to a sharp rise in abandoned pets, largely driven by the aftermath of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. Many centers, including Bristol ARC and Bath Cats and Dogs Home, are overwhelmed with animals needing complex medical care. The influx of unsocialized "pandemic pups" and rising costs are straining resources, with a 24% increase in animal intake at Bristol ARC. Despite community support, like fundraising efforts, rescue centers are urging owners to seek help early and act responsibly to avoid abandoning their pets. As we paws perfecto cares for pets, so we want to stop people from abandoning their pets and give love and care to them. January is Unchain Your Dog Month, a time when we should increase our awareness of the struggles of dogs who are kept tied up outside in the cold. Dogs are entitled to warmth, comfort, and companionship, just like any other family member. Bringing them inside is the kindest and safest thing we can do for them. There are many ways you can help this month, including talking to your neighbors who keep their dogs tied outside. Explain the dangers of exposing dogs to cold weather and offer resources. Another way to help is by advocating for change. Contact your local legislators and animal welfare organizations such as the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) and express your support for stricter laws against chaining dogs and promoting responsible pet ownership. You can also donate, volunteer or foster dogs that have been neglected or abused by organizations that are working to rescue and rehome them. Lastly, you can spread awareness on social media by sharing information about Unchain a Dog Month and the importance of bringing dogs inside. Let us all work together to achieve a world where dogs are treated with the respect, kindness, and love they deserve. Don't forget to use the hashtags #NoMoreChains, #UnchainADog, #FreeThePaws, #DogsDeserveBetter, #BringThemInside, #EndChainingNow, #Compassion4Canines, and #WarmthForWoofers when sharing your posts.

We want to give a shout-out to Independent Animal Rescue based in Durham, North Carolina. Independent Animal Rescue (IAR) is a non-profit group in the Triangle region of North Carolina that works to provide homes for hundreds of unwanted cats and dogs each year. Their mission is to rescue cats and dogs in need and reduce the suffering of unwanted animals through their adoption and community programs. IAR believes they can alleviate problems associated with dog and cat overpopulation and abandonment using a 3-pronged approach: (1) Rescue and adoption of unwanted and abused animals; (2) funding and providing spay/neuter services; (3) education and outreach on animal welfare to the community. The eCIO team is privileged to work with the IAR to build a lasting investment program that will support its important mission. #nonprofit #investmentmanagement #endowmentmanagement #enduringinvestmentprograms

A newsletter from Morning Brew hit my inbox with the following statistics: The number of stray dogs in US shelters has increased by 22% since 2021, per data from the Shelter Animals Count database. Canine deaths in shelters are up 27% from last year and 78% from 2021. The Bloomberg article is linked below. Those who work in rescue, unfortunately, knew this could happen. Most folks who adopt dogs are first time dog owners. They finally had the time to stay home, acclimate a dog and have a companion during difficult times. But then, they were called back to the office… and things got tricky. I’ve met a good number of pandemic dogs and the most common issues I see are: - Social awkwardness to full on reactivity towards dogs, humans and/or both - Separation anxiety Both difficult to handle during swift RTO mandates. We ask folks who adopt dogs to stand by them, but how can they when their livelihoods are at risk? These policies not only cause harm to humans. These policies are killing dogs. I repeat: Canine deaths in shelters are up 27% from last year and 78% from 2021. If you’re in the C-suite or a decision maker for RTO you can make a donation to Rain or Shine Rescue rescue here: https://lnkd.in/eh-SKpwu Please like, share, comment for reach. #rescue #shelter #dogs #foster #adoptdontshop

Ratan Tata: A Legacy of Compassion for Animals Ratan Tata's passing has left every Indian heart heavy. Beyond his business achievements, he was a true champion for animal welfare. His Instagram posts often featured dog adoptions, calls for blood donations for injured animals, and appeals to support strays. He also established top-tier hospitals for animals and generously donated to animal charities. In a society where many see community dogs as a nuisance, Ratan Tata stood for empathy. If someone of his stature could show such compassion, why can't we? His legacy teaches us that kindness towards animals is not just admirable but necessary. As we honor his memory, let’s embrace his example. Let’s stop the harassment of caregivers and feeders, and instead foster empathy towards animals. Ratan Tata’s work has sparked a global conversation about compassion. It’s up to us to continue his mission and create a world where kindness to animals is the norm. Let’s make this change—one act of compassion at a time. #RatanTata #LegacyOfCompassion #AnimalWelfare #CommunityDogs #BeKindToAnimals #AnimalRights #CompassionForAll #DogLovers #AnimalCare #EmpathyMatters #InspireChange #KindnessCounts #HonorHisLegacy #StopHarassment #CareForAnimals

Want to hear a statistic that might blow your mind? If 0.18% of Dorchester County residents adopted an animal from Dorchester Paws - our kennels would be empty. Just 0.18% of our community, and no animal would be without a warm bed to sleep tonight. While this number may seem small, it’s the difference maker for each of the 302 shelter residents in our care, like Junie. This number could rewrite the story of loneliness and longing for 2 year old lovable Junie. It’s the critical number for triumph in animal welfare and victory for each and every animal. 0.18% Each adoption is not merely a statistic but a commitment to providing loving homes and remaining a nurturing environment for the many souls in need. Together, we can continue to make a tangible difference in the lives of so many and expand our capacity to care for even more in the future. Whether you’re able to open your home and heart through adoption, fostering, or you know 3 to 5 people who might be - our community can rally around homeless animals and ensure bright futures for them. Stop in from 12p-5p to potentially meet your new best friend!

Ever thought of volunteering at an animal shelter? Shelters do amazing things, but they can't run without volunteers! Three reasons to consider volunteering in your free time: Reduced Stress, Increased Adoptions: Playtime and walks with volunteers increase human interactions, reduce stress, and make animals happier and more adoptable. Lifesaving Support: Shelters often juggle a high volume of animals. Volunteers can free up staff for essential medical care and cleaning by taking on tasks like dog walking, cat cuddling, and enrichment activities. Unlocking Potential: Experienced volunteers can help identify behavioral issues and support in implementing training plans. Volunteering is highly rewarding, and shelters rely on you! You don't have to be a vet to make a difference. Find a local shelter near you and see how you can help. You will build connections, and directly improve animal lives. #veterinarian #animalshelter #volunteer #giveback #adoptdontshop
