5 things you legally need to do right away when you move to a new state 1. Update Your Address: Notify the United States Postal Service (USPS) of your new address and file for mail forwarding to ensure you receive important documents and mail at your new location. 2. Driver’s License and Vehicle Registration: Obtain a new driver’s license from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in your new state. Also, register your vehicle with the new state and update your license plate and registration. 3. Update Insurance Policies: Inform your insurance providers (auto, health, home, etc.) about your move to update your policies accordingly. This might include changes in coverage, premiums, and policy terms. 4. Healthcare Providers: Find new healthcare providers in your new state and transfer your medical records to your new doctors and medical facilities. 5. School Enrollment: If you have children, research and enroll them in schools in your new area. Ensure that all necessary documents and records are transferred to their new school. They're there to help and can give you the lowdown on where your claim stands. And last but not least, there's the traditional method of visiting a VA Regional Office in your state.
