This weekend my daughter Polina Malova graduated from high school. For me, just as any parent, it was a truly emotional moment: a mix of pride, celebration, joy, relief, gratitude, with a twist of sadness and 'How did the time go by so fast?'. A milestone that frankly, caught me off guard, and urged to pause and ponder. And there was plenty worth pondering. Beyond organising the festivities, the school invited a few truly exceptional speakers, Flaminia Sartorio and Oenone C., to share what they wished they had known at 18. I captured some of their messages that I felt particularly strongly about - messages that hold true for our 'grown-up' selves too: 1️⃣ Things will not go the way you planned. And that is more than okay. Our plans can (and do) fail. Yet, we can be happy. Sometimes, the unexpected detours lead to the unplanned but most rewarding destinations. 2️⃣ Courage or comfort - you can’t have both. If you want to grow, you need the courage to take bold moves, to speak up, to be judged, to make losses, and to be wrong. And when (not if) you will make mistakes, you've got to have the courage to learn from them. 3️⃣ Wisdom is learned, not genetically gifted. No one is born with all the answers. And the answers that we gain through our lives, are often earned in three ways - through painful battles, hard work and persistence (even stubbornness sometimes), and curiosity.

For those of you who have school-age (and not only children), some useful words of wisdom. I'd like to add to that: we, as parents, should teach the most important skill that's not part of the school curriculum - selling (which is not the same as communication). After all, everyone's career depends on it - we are sell: our ideas, skills, brains out muscle; own product/service or someone else's. We sell proactively or by improving our skills to progress our careers.

I'd like in the 51st year of CSi to have the ability to introduce random wave loads (spectrum - not only solitary waves) to semi-submerged structures within SAP2000, including influencing water properties like viscosity, temperature, etc, as well as large members buoyancy, water-filled or empty members and/or hydrodynamic added mass provisions), and marine growth for the underwater parts of the structure.

Another Year ahead fulfilled with new challenges joy and new things to come forward. Another year gone of happiness, fun, adventure, sorrow, joy, pain n lots of mixed feelings day on day. Things learned: 1. Give more than you receive: Be it any one. Friends family or society. Its ok to take a day off for your loved ones and let them feel special during the day. 2. Be Human than being Man: Let spare the funds of bday festivals and outings for a good cause; It cud give smile to many hungry faces if you feed them instead of boozing wid few ppl. 3. Grow with your experience: Learn to grow wid experiences of life and always think it was just a start and better as of now; later on it cud have been worse. 4. Last but not least, Make peace wid past make love wid present and make plans for future, as this is the best way to handle life. Love Life Live Life...... As Yesterday is already Gone and Tomorrow may never come so live today to the fullest.

As I get ready to celebrate my first 4th of July as an American citizen, I reflect on my decade-long journey here. Adapting while staying authentic has been challenging but rewarding. Here’s what I’ve learned: Three new skills I acquired: 1️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: Before moving here, I never embraced this concept. Now, I see great value in reaching out to people, learning their stories, and building connections without really asking for anything. It's amazing how these relationships often lead to mutual support and unexpected opportunities. 2️⃣ 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Before, I would complete a project and quickly move on to the next. Now, I've learned the importance of celebrating successes and communicating achievements. Initially uncomfortable with self-promotion, I've found that sharing a compelling "Launch Announcement" with the organization helps build a strong professional image. 3️⃣ 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭: Like many Latinos, I enjoy sharing stories, which can make my communication verbose. Over time, I've improved by ending my contributions with a brief recap, summarizing my message into (at most) three key points. I've found that people tend to remember the last thing you say. 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚'𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲. I will try my best to carry these new skills with me always, while still keeping the human connection and warmth of Latin American culture. 𝐓𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲: It will not be easy, but what will really set us apart is the ability to adopt the new perspectives while also continuing to embrace our cultural heritage and remaining true to ourselves.
