Teamwork and the Holiday Spirit: Turning Collaboration into Magic This year, at the Swiss entity of Sol-Millennium Medical Group, we decided to make our office special by decorating it for the holidays. But it wasn’t just about decorations; it was an opportunity to engage in team building and strengthen collaboration among colleagues. In our regions, it’s a tradition to set up holiday decorations between the 1st and the 8th of December, so we took the opportunity to honor this custom together. Everyone contributed: Andrea Maspero Marco Belluzzi Cinzia Marasco Ruidan Li Giovanni Mondo Gaetano Buttò Cristian Appari Davide Galimberti from creative ideas to hands-on work with lights and ornaments. At the end, we all came together to share a moment of celebration, enjoying panettone and pandoro (and a small glass of spumante brut...even this is a secret...shhhh ! don't tell it around... 😀) This experience reinforced to me two important lessons: - Be happy with what you have: appreciating simple moments, like decorating together and sharing a smile. - Keep the drive to improve: the desire to grow, both as individuals and as a team, is what helps us achieve greater goals. The same mindset applies to every project: value what we’ve already built while constantly looking forward, searching for new solutions and ideas. More Than JUST A FESTIVAL! Lohri, the vibrant harvest festival, is a time for joy, togetherness, and gratitude. While it's a deeply rooted cultural celebration, We believe that incorporating it into the workplace can bring significant benefits. THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY #7 💭 Yesterday, Agena Bioscience held its San Diego office holiday celebration, and it got me reflecting on the value of these yearly traditions. I didn’t always get to attend holiday parties. When I worked as a field service engineer, I was often too far from HQ to join. But since transitioning to an in-office role, I’ve developed a deeper appreciation for the effort and purpose behind these celebrations. Here are my top reasons for valuing a yearly holiday party: 1️⃣ A chance for leaders to connect with employees: For many, this might be the only time they get to chat with the GM or CEO in a relaxed setting. It’s a great way for leadership to show their appreciation. 2️⃣ Breaking down silos: Holiday parties encourage cross-department connections. You might meet someone new or gain valuable insights about challenges and successes from another team’s perspective. 3️⃣ A well-deserved break: End-of-year deadlines can be stressful. A fun, inclusive event gives employees a chance to unplug, recharge, and boost mental well-being before diving back in. Holiday parties may seem simple, but they play an important role in fostering connection, appreciation, and balance at work. P.S. This is Nowita Court, one of the walking streets in Venice CA. Secluded, quiet, with beautiful Mediterranean gardens on either side, these streets are a unique feature of this neighborhood. Urban planners sometimes do something to surprise and delight urban dwellers, and these walking streets are a great example of something beautiful and unexpected that they didn’t have to give us—but they did. And we are grateful. Every organization can offer something to surprise and delight their customers and even their employees. Airlines offer early boarding or a free drink to their best customers. Restaurants sometimes offer an amuse bouche between courses or a candy to sweeten the check. Neighborhoods celebrate First Fridays when every business has specials and stays open late. For employees, casual Fridays or summer Fridays are treasured perks. When companies go out of their way to please us, we naturally become more loyal to the organization and curious, checking back often to see what else they might have in store. It’s a positive way to make a difference, boosting customer and employee retention and giving everyone something to smile about.
