Video Editors that I have come across are of largely of two kinds: >First who tap and twirl around their PC only sticking to the copy/script. They will even copy the "(Suggestion to the Video Editor) " part. Please understand :annoying people' cannot be a great career choice. Come at me whateves. >Second Ones: They are storytellers. They understand the power of editing videos, and they nail it. They are capable of making such influential content, understanding briefs, molding the copy (lil tweaks here and there are cool only.) and carrying the urge to create "mind blowing" content every damn time. Looking out for the second ones. Obviously. I used to think that hiring was more about matching skills to job descriptions. Turns out, I was wrong. When I first started hiring for SA DIGITAL FILMS, I focused on filling out the JD. But very soon, it started to fall down for us. I realized that if I focus too much on the job title, I’ll miss out on what people can really do. To drive real growth, I needed to build a team that shared the same passion and beliefs as me. Once I hired a video editor who turned out to be very good at writing. Similarly, a 3D generalist who went on to become our most valuable creative producer. So instead of keeping them fixed in their primary roles, I gave them a chance to focus on what they were good at. It ended up being better for them and us as well in ways I hadn’t anticipated. Now, I don’t focus on checking the boxes anymore. Instead, I focus on what people are passionate about and let them bring that to the table. It has taught me that it’s important to be flexible. Following this has been a game-changer and transformed the way we operate. I would love to learn your takes on hiring as a founder. #flexibility #strengths #hiring

One of my bosses told me not to focus on techniques. They can be learned on the internet. You can google it anytime like, "How to face-track?", "How do I add transitions?" etc. Instead, focus on the concept, purpose and making the video seamless. That's how you make a great video edit.

Hiring solely based on skill? BIG mistake. Humans are a lot more than what they do. Someone who has brilliant video editing skills, might have completely different values from you. Even if they can make the most amazing edits. They are not able to showcase YOU. A great video editor isn’t necessarily the most skilled one. It’s someone who: ◖ Is a good communicator ◖ Loves & gets your vision ◖ Uses effective systems ◖ Keeps to a schedule Hire someone who loves what you do and how you do it. When I got my first client 2.5 years ago, I was a total newbie when it came to editing. But because I loved what my client was doing, it made me work so much harder.
