Are you asking yourself how the 2024 #Offshorewind auction year turned out and what to expect in 2025? Don´t worry I got you - just keep reading!
Last year, the offshore wind space did see a lot of headwinds. At first glance one might conclude that 2024 was a horrendous year and perhaps even a cautionary tale for what lies ahead in 2025.
However, together with my good colleague Réka Zsófia Kékesi we did a lot of auction data crunching and it turns out that the picture is somewhat different. The reason is that in more than 20 markets across all regions (Americas, APAC and Europe) auction are or were conducted in 2024. With close to 200 GW offered and a whopping 80 GW awarded, 2024 will go down as the year that broke all records.
Despite these impressive numbers, above only tell parts of the story! Another clear trend is that all regions saw reduced willingness to pay to secure sites, auctions with very few bidders, undersubscription and/or failed auctions. These patterns offer valuable insights into what properly also will unfold in yet another busy 2025 (and in my opinion especially for auctions with strict COD in early 2030ies), where +100 GW is up for grabs globally.
Annoyed that you don´t have access to all the juicy details such as who won, which upcoming auctions will be offered with support and much more? Then you´re the only one to blame as it is quite easy and very cheap to become a member of the #Intelligent cool kids club also known as Aegir Insights 😉.
Still needs some more convincing or did you use all your money buying X-mass gifts? Then no need to despair as you free of charge can signup for our next Wavelength, where above will be laid out in greater detail and where my good colleagues Alba Teodoro Pujol & Simon Engfred Schlichting will deep dive into the #French and #SouthKorean auction results.
