The various structural elements (i.e columns, beams, slabs and foundations) in buildings are subjected to these forces. 1. Buckling 2. Deflection 3. Overturning 4. Sliding 5. Shear forces 6. Torsion (i.e twisting) 7. Punching shear 8. Wind 9. Bending Note: Overturning, sliding are more peculiar to retaining structures or any other structural related structures.
