Two new events are to be introduced at iba.TRADE FAIR next year; a new competition and a space for trends. For the first time, the ‘𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀’, organized by the German National Bakers Academy in Weinheim will join the trade show’s other established competitions including the iba.UIBC.Cup of Bakers and the iba.UIBC.Cup of Confectioners.
Also there is the iba.FOOD TRENDS AREA, where the concept is evenly spread across the entire Hall 15. Exhibitors will present their food trends at various stands and contact points, from raw materials and snack innovations to machines for production. This new highlight includes the iba.STAGE, which will host presentations on food trends in the mornings with the afternoons dedicated to experts who will cover other focus topics.
iba.TRADE FAIR’s one-off Dusseldorf edition will be held from May 18 to 22, 2025. The exhibition space is currently 95% booked, with over 700 exhibitors from 43 countries registered. Ticket sales for visitors will start in December 2024.

Over the last few years, there has been a boom in specialty coffee-focused events. Increasing in both number and variety, trade shows, expos, and festivals are evolving – reflecting the growth of global specialty coffee culture more broadly.
In turn, events have become an increasingly important part of the industry. They have long served as springboards for roasters and other coffee brands to market themselves and potentially generate more revenue. More recently, a focus on education, networking, and competitions is further supporting the growth of specialty coffee in a number of countries, including some prominent emerging markets.
In today’s article, Vasileia Fanarioti speaks to Peter Ševič, the director of Ljubljana Coffee Festival, and Aleš Turšič, the founder of Stow Coffee Roasters, to find out more.

The Wendy's Company plans to close 140 underperforming locations in 2025. Despite this, Wendy's reported same-store sales growth of 2.8% globally in the third quarter, with increases of 2.2% in the United States and an impressive 7.8% internationally. Kirk Tanner CEO Wendy's said "focus on building customer love by – Fresh Famous Food, Made Right".
In comparison, the Dallas-based parent company of Chili's and Maggiano's Little Italy reported same-store sales growth of 13% systemwide, with Chili’s seeing a remarkable 14.1% increase.
Key Takeaways and Insights on Brand Performance in the Last Quarter:
- Strategic Menu Focus: Wendy's has taken strategic steps to address labor cost increases and declining customer counts by enhancing its higher-value menu offerings, leading to a larger average check size. Similarly, Chili’s noted that nearly half of its customers are choosing the premium "3 for Me" meal, demonstrating that menu simplification combined with premium options has been effective for both brands.
- Profitability Challenges: Wendy's profitability was impacted by rising advertising and depreciation expenses. However, this was partially offset by growth in franchise royalty revenue and increased franchise net rental income.
- Cost Management Success: Wendy's successfully reduced cloud computing expenses and overall capital expenditure, contributing to improved cash flow.

While Wendy’s is focusing on cost management, Chili’s has made strategic investments in equipment like TurboChef Technologies, Inc.. Their ovens outperform conventional options, as Kevin Hochman noted, “The TurboChefs are much faster, and they make a much more consistent product.”

"Competition medals don't mean anything; everyone has medals."
That's a common sentiment we often hear. Most of the time, it's true. Many competitions give distinctions to whoever pays, with judging criteria that don't solely focus on taste.
However, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition appears to be different. It is a blind competition where only taste matters, judged by an extraordinary panel of experts.
"Many consider a Double Gold at San Francisco to be the highest medal one can receive in the spirits world, but there’s something even more prestigious: a Platinum Medal."
We are proud that our Rum 0.0% has been awarded Double Gold every year since its creation and is now the first non-alcoholic spirit to receive the Platinum Medal.
Our dedication to crafting the finest non-alcoholic spirits from real spirits is paying off, and we couldn't be prouder.Check out the full list of platinum medal winners at SFWSC here
