This morning, after 6 months of thinking, dreaming, debating, and word wrangling, we presented Eclipse Awards' social purpose statement (the reason we exist) to a group of peers at the United Way BC Social Purpose Institute, and here it is..... "We exist to uplift and empower communities, making earth friendly trophies to celebrate everyday people and unite the human spirit." We'll use this as a lense to guide our work and efforts in the years ahead, and my guess is that it will continue to evolve over time. What do you think? Does it capture what we do? Does it inspire you? Did we miss something? We welcome your comments :) #socialeconomy #socialpurpose #impact #smallbusiness

OCAS created its new strategic plan this year, focusing on how we plan to move forward in the coming years. During the creation of this plan, we took time to outline the five core values that make OCAS so strong: - We bring real joy to the work we do: We like to celebrate success, our teams, and OCAS as an organization. - We're in this together: No one is an island. We foster and encourage collaborative efforts. - We take pride in our craft: We hire talented people who love what they do, and it shows! Our teams strive to deliver the best product every time. - We create possibility: We're constantly looking forward and using our unique space in the college system to research, innovate, and create. -We're passionate about education: We're proud to help people take the first step in their postsecondary journey. As other people on here, including David Powell, have argued much more eloquently than me, it is immensely frustrating that debate around how we are going to secure a liveable future for us all has ended up focused on a completely unrelatable figure - £28 billion - rather than on how life could be better for us if we chose to do things differently. It's a failure of politics, and it's a failure of imagination too. I've written quite a bit about the power of imagination - inspired by people like Rob Hopkins - and his excellent book, From What Is To What If. 20 years ago my local MP at the time, John Battle, invited me along to a community meeting - Better Things For Bramley - to share a vision of how things could be better than they were. I shared a big vision, and some of it was ridiculous, some of it tongue-in-cheek. So much so that people laughed at loud at some of the ways I suggested life might be different in west Leeds in 2024. But it turns out that some of what we talked about that day eventually came true. Through the immense hard work of so many local people involved with Bramley Baths. But also because people were open to imagining how things could be better than they were. I'll pop a link in the comments. #imagination #socialchange #socialinnovation #community #climateemergency

Enable purpose & clear inner BS for leaders to solve our world's big problems... while living true to themselves. The crazier the mission, the better 🚀 | I write about working in purpose, freedom, and joy.
"Can you pull over here?" I asked my mom so I could run half a block back to tell a woman who was on her phone while walking a bicycle with her dog off leash that her dog pooped 150ft back. I smiled as I approached and said kindly, without judgment, “Hi, your dog pooped while you were on the phone.” She was surprised and looked back. "It was past the construction in front of a white house a few doors down." She was still on the call so, I smiled at her again, said hi to the dog, then ran back to the car. Idk if she went back to pick it up, but I did what I could to fulfill, even in the smallest of ways, my responsibility of fellow human watching out for others in my community. If you don't live in NYC, every poop left behind becomes a landmine for the thousands who walk that street until someone inevitably steps on it. And it fucking SUCKS when you step it in. NYC is an intense, concentrated microcosm of the delicate social fabric we all exist in. There's a level of respect and care that everyone needs to contribute and there's only so much asshole it can sustain or else the whole thing falls apart. Yes, it feels like the whole world is falling apart and we’re all self-absorbed phone zombies who often feel help/hope-less about making the world better. But if most of us are too distracted, self-obsessed, or nihilist to hold each other accountable to basic respect and care of one another, we're contributing to, if not accelerating, our own demise. The asshole in sales with the highest numbers, but shittiest humanity, who everyone just accepts as a necessary evil is not being held accountable by everyone else at the company. The judgmental family member, who "criticizes bc they care" and everyone deals by talking shit behind their back, is not being held accountable by the whole family. Is there someone who could be "more" responsible for holding those people accountable? Maybe. But if you understand that you're part of The Collective where we all impact each other and there's a standard of respect that we should all have for each other, then who's job is it to hold our fellow humans accountable? None of us can change the world by ourselves, but all of us can contribute to changing our world every day... starting with the human who isn't paying attention to her dog's poops. It’s not the most comfortable thing, but it is the thing we are responsible for if we actually want the world to be a kinder, more respectful, more accountable place. And it does get easier with practice. But we have to actually practice. 💛

How do you deal with the highs and lows of economic development work and public service? We'd love to hear your tips and tricks for staying positive and engaged. Here is a little hack our founder, Super Dave Quinn, CEcD 👊, has used over the years to help when things go a little sideways. #mindset #coaching #lifecoach #Mindsetcoach #superdavequinn #FairviewTX #Texas #econdev #TexasEDConnection #superdave #d1experts
I’ve dedicated my career to developing and delivering unique, end-to-end economic development services for cities, companies, and developers. I am a leader, speaker, and difference-maker.
I'm not sure what I was saying at this moment, but I'm sure it was profound. Just look at how I'm using my hand to convey the point. In every gesture, every word, and every moment of silence, there's a profound message waiting to be uncovered. As I look back at this photo, captured amid an impassioned speech, I'm reminded of the invisible weight we carry as economic developers and public servants. Our mission, steeped in the relentless pursuit of community growth and prosperity, often places us at the crossroads of challenge and change. The path of public service is not for the faint of heart. It's a journey marked by highs and lows, successes and setbacks. There are days when the weight of our responsibilities feels overwhelming when self-doubt whispers and fear cast long shadows. In these moments, the essence of our commitment is truly tested. But it's also in these moments that we find our greatest strength. I've learned to anchor myself in the power of reflection. I keep a 'reflection file'—a collection of moments, like the groundbreaking of Levelland Industrial Rail Park in Levelland, Texas, notes of gratitude from those we've impacted, images of ribbon cuttings, and grand openings. This file serves as a tangible reminder of the impact of our work, the lives we've touched, and the communities we've transformed. Each entry in this file whispers, "Keep going. Your efforts matter. Hope endures." I encourage you to start your reflection file as we approach another weekend. Let it be a beacon during challenging times, a reminder of your purpose, and the profound impact of your work. And if you need help navigating the complexities of economic development or public service, know that you're not alone. I'm here to share in your journey, offer guidance, and help rekindle your passion's spark. Together with Day One Experts, we can turn challenges into opportunities and aspirations into achievements. Let's connect and explore how we can elevate your community and reignite your passion for service. The time to act is now—your journey to renewed purpose and profound impact begins with a single step. no one is ever alone by Peculiarly Positive Perspectives "No one is ever alone" emphasizes the idea that humans are never truly isolated. Technology, such as social media and online communities, connects people and provides companionship. These virtual connections, along with support systems like family and friends, improve well-being and help individuals navigate challenges. Research shows that social connections reduce stress and enhance coping abilities. Understanding and embracing this concept provides reassurance, reminding individuals that they are not alone. via YouTube https://lnkd.in/g2kAPbsy
