Reflecting on 6 Incredible Years at the Anderton Centre When I first walked through the doors of the Anderton Centre, I couldn't have imagined the challenges, successes, and invaluable lessons that lay ahead. From day one, I sensed there was something truly special about this place. My mission was clear: harness its potential, build a team that could express its unique qualities, and share its story with as many people as possible. I don’t toot my own horn very often, but by any metric, the Centre has gone from strength to strength. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together. In business, people often say you should never look back as it may cause you to lose focus on the future. While I somewhat agree, I believe that reflecting on our journey allows us to appreciate how far we’ve come and to craft an inspiring vision for the future. To use a sporting analogy, we aim to leave the shirt in a better place than when we got it. When the time is right, I hope to do just that. For now, there's still plenty of work ahead, driving more passion, enhancing customer focus, and striving for continuous improvement. #milestone #careerjourney #teamwork #growthmindset #continuousimprovement #reflect

Creating a safe and modern workplace - #Stockland are to be congratulated. Todays #Telegraph article 'It hits you in the face,' - Building Industry's 'Shame of Thrones by #LindaSilmalis makes a great contribution to this conversation. https://lnkd.in/gUkr3ibu Its not a conversation that many want to be confronted with. Silmalis's story follows the Office of Building Commission 2023 #WomeninConstructionSurvey that tackles what is holding back young women and men from choosing a career in the construction industry. https://lnkd.in/gTkMYMvU. #BuildingCommissionNSW looked for a major land subdivision developer to embrace the challenges found in the survey by entering into a voluntary MoU to help showcase the alternative to what the industry currently offers. Stockland took up the challenge. They have undertaken to trial the provision of centralised amenities on three of their subdivision sites. The idea is for shared facilities to be provided for every 50 to 100 housing lots under construction. Builders will be able to pay a weekly subscription to swap out of their current dunny arrangements. Their trade contractors would then have access to nearby well maintained and appropriate toilet amenities. #Stockland are a #FirstMover. The obligation to provide appropriate site facilities is required by law. This weeks #SafeworkWrap makes the position pretty clear. https://lnkd.in/gY_HnKtA The message for the construction industry is that if you want tomorrows workforce to show up, then you have to do some of the heavy lifting. Delivering the #NSWHousingStrategy is not just a government problem. Lets hope that there will be more Stocklands helping to show the way. #Landcom #LandenPropertyGroup #Bathla #FrasersPropertyAustralia

#MarkFarmer later called out the NSW #MMCRegulatoryPackage as world leading. He said that most governments were more focused on how to get MMC started, but many had yet to get ahead of the public interest issues that will be fundamental to the uptake of modernising an industry that still had many bumps on the road ahead. It is essential that governments think through the potential risks of new construction methods, not to block them, but to smooth the way to set the modern industry up for success. The #NSW #BuildingReform strategy has shown that good regulation is not about red tape, it is more to do with ensuring market confidence for consumers, financiers and insurers who all make essential contributions to a well functioning society and economy. Well done #AngusAbadee and team. #BuildingConfidence

In the event that you're still paying attention, here's another of our top tens of the year: The Planner's top 10 planning appeal reports of 2023, based on your clicks, likes, comments and shares. There's some meaty stories here that remind us what's been under scrutiny in the last 12 months: more than one solar appeal (and we could have had five or six); the M&S demolition controversy; green belt refusals; modern towers vs heritage concerns. Oh, and an illegally demolished pub that was ordered to be rebuilt - that's definitely a theme of the year. Have a read at your leisure. We're here to the bitter end today, by the way. Well, maybe we'll sneak off a little bit early - it is Christmas, after all. https://lnkd.in/eFRB5xYw #townplanning #urbanplanning #urbanism #PINS #planningappeals #planningenforcement

When Turner Construction Company established our permanent office in Memphis, I began to dive into the dynamics of our city. A stark reality became apparent – there is a critical gap in the representation of skilled workers in the construction trades. Most skilled tradespeople commuted from areas outside of Shelby County and didn't mirror the demographics of the city they served. This ignited a shift in our priorities in the Mid-South, leading our Turner office to address workforce development as a primary focus. Within our workforce efforts, diversity, equity, and inclusion are three closely linked values that are key to building stronger, more representative teams of workers and trade partners. Partnerships play a pivotal role in making this happen. As a board member of Go Build Tennessee, leading our Turner team in actively contributing to initiatives that promote workforce development and diversity in the construction sector. Go Build Tennessee is an outstanding driver of engagement with diverse communities and across our state, breaking down barriers and fostering greater inclusion within the workforce. Other collaborative efforts, such as the partnership between the West Tennessee Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and UpSmith, showcase our commitment to fostering meaningful connections that empower workers in the Memphis region. As the ABC of West TN Board Chair for 2024, I want to cultivate further opportunities for collaboration in our communities and see our entire local industry take pride in our ongoing efforts to strengthen and diversify our workforce. There are many companies, individuals and organizations striving to make our workforce represent our communities better because of that diversity. By embracing each other’s ideas and working together, we enrich our industry with fresh ideas and varied perspectives that make us all stronger. As we build our city’s future, we should do so with a dedication to inclusion where people feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued. Our actions today shape the future of our industry, and that future belongs to everyone. #TurnerConstruction #Memphis #workforcedevelopment #careers

Over the past three years, CED has been an integral part of the collaborative efforts with Western Melbourne Group (WMG) in shaping the landscape of the Stadium development. We have designed the Leakes Rd and Icon Rd intersections which are now under construction. The functional waterway corridor including twin wetlands was also integrated with the stadium layout, allowing for the maximum developable footprint. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the site's inherent constraints and developing ahead of the typical PSP process. James Barker, Director of Water & Environment at CED, expresses the significance of contributing to a large-scale development, stating, "It is indeed a privilege to be involved in such a substantial project. Our comprehensive understanding of the entire site, coupled with early and meticulous analysis, played a pivotal role in swiftly obtaining approval for the stormwater strategy. This approval not only instilled confidence but also facilitated the seamless progression of the development. In addition, we worked closely with Wyndham City Council to bring forward $15M of road infrastructure works funding to provide critical access to the site.” A significant milestone unfolded last year as Winslow, the appointed contractor, commenced construction in September. This marked a substantial step forward in bringing the project's vision to fruition. This development is anticipated to attract substantial economic investment, generate employment opportunities, and foster community development, bringing benefits and key infrastructure to both the immediate local and wider communities. 🏗️ Exciting News from New South Wales! 🏠 The New South Wales government has launched a dedicated taskforce to address the acute shortage of social housing through innovative modular construction methods. With a budget commitment of $10 million, this initiative aims to oversee the construction of approximately 20 new one- and two-bedroom social homes, focusing on regional areas within the state. Michael Wheatley, Acting Chief Executive of the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, highlighted the numerous benefits of modular homes, emphasizing their cost-effectiveness and the significant reduction in construction time. This is a crucial step in meeting the immediate housing needs of those on the social housing waiting list. The advisory taskforce, managed by Homes NSW and operational for up to two years, is part of the state's broader effort to provide more and better homes for people in need. Together, a positive impact is being made in the community by creating sustainable and affordable housing solutions.
