"This is not a training course - we are here to plot a revolution" is not something I've ever heard at a workshop before - but what if we did start from 'what's strong' instead of 'what's wrong?' What if we could 'care to listen' instead of jumping into to try and fix, advise, rescue? What if we could be in right relationship between doing to, for, with and by? (Asset-based Community Development) (From Nurture Development) I spent most of last week in an amazingly transformative training experience guided by Cormac Russell. The question of "what does a good day look like for you and what are the barriers that get in the way of you having more of them?" can apply in everything I do. There are so many practice opportunities in how I coach caregivers, care providers and care teams, in how I contribute in my community, in how I learn with people about 'being with' dying, death, grief and loss... Thank you Healthcare Excellence Canada for your vision and leadership bringing Asset-based Community Development to our thinking about Enabling Aging in Place. I'm excited by the thought of shaking things up as we explore processes and ideas that support well-being and health beyond healthcare.
