This is Worth Every Read, I promise 💯 During a recent flight from Atlanta to New York, I found myself engaged in an unusual conversation with a fellow passenger. Typically, I keep to myself, armed with a good book and a selection of downloaded movies to pass the time. However, on this particular flight, I struck up a conversation with my seatmate, who turned out to be a business owner. He shared glimpses of his entrepreneurial journey, recounting the companies he had founded and sold in the past, as well as the ongoing ventures of his current company. His stories left me impressed and inspired, given my own aspirations of owning multiple companies in the future. Notably, he mentioned the unique people practices in his company, including not requiring a college degree to join his team. This unconventional approach allowed him to discover talent that often goes unnoticed. He exuded pride when speaking of a team member who had turned a video game into a million-dollar success. At one point, I inquired about his daughter, who had recently graduated from college. To my surprise, he informed me that she was working as a bartender and planning a trip to Europe. My initial reaction, colored by my upbringing, was a judgmental "bartending, really?" 😂 He went on to explain his perspective: he wanted her to explore the world, and bartending provided valuable skills, particularly in communication. He also revealed that he hadn't embarked on his career until the age of 27 and had spent time as a bartender himself. ✨ Reflecting on this part of our conversation, I realized that one's twenties are a period of exploration, a time when taking risks is not just acceptable but encouraged. If I could turn back the clock, I might have explored careers like becoming a flight attendant, considering my love for flying, or delving into the world of fashion. It's a message I'd like to convey to people in their twenties: ✨ Explore and discover what truly ignites your passion. Don't conform to someone else's timeline. Do you and have fun. I remember lying on the couch in a huge executive suite in one of the world's most famous hotels, looking out at a panoramic view of Miami Beach. Although my wife and I are not ones for the “bling” Miami lifestyle, the view was beautiful and the response from most would have been some level of gratitude and appreciation. Instead, I was preoccupied with negative thoughts, projecting forward to the end of the year when I’d finally been proven to be an imposter and fired for underperforming. At the time that was quite a ridiculous idea. I’d been consistently achieving “Presidents Club” awards” year after year, and this particular year I’d gone one step further and received a particularly prestigious award, hence the room upgrade. In some ways our minds are perfectly formed, in others, we’re flawed. Most of us have ingrained negative patterns, perhaps like a software virus, which can kick in when we’re stressed or particularly busy. They’re often known as cognitive distortions. Although I like to think of myself as generally optimistic and resilient, I am prone to castrophising, i.e. running through a chain of negative thoughts that leads to the very worst possible scenarios. Of course, none of us want to become complacent, and a bit of stress is very beneficial, however, when our negative forecasting becomes irrational it’s something we need to address. Simply knowing how our minds work, and what the negative patterns of behaviour that we’re prone to can be a huge step forward. ROAD TO DO AWAY WITH POVERTY I’ve been close to bankruptcy a couple of times. Never got to actually file for it, but man I got really close. It was awful. Worst part was, it wasn’t because of a lack of work ethics. I was probably working harder than ever. I knew It wasn’t bad luck. Or the economy.Or the business model. So what was it then? After the dust settled and I managed to stop and think things through, I realized something that made my blood run cold. It was me. Turyamureeba Ignatius Educator,Author,trainer and entrepreneur I wasn’t the right person to lead my business. I didn’t have the skills or the experience to run a successful business. Once I realized that, I made it my top priority to always work on my business skills no matter what business I am running or advising. Things like: How to build an irresistible offer What traffic sources to use to get qualified leads How to hire a sales team How to manage a sales team What needs to be measured How to pivot when things are not working And much more… So, If I were to lose it all today and start all over again, that’s what I would do, turyamureeba Ignatius.  I’d find whoever is most likely to show me how to develop these skills and hire that person.
