On Tuesday, the second #FarmtoForkSummit took place at 10 Downing Street, addressing the important issue of #foodsecurity in the #UK. Olio • Share More, Waste Less and our colleagues across the redistribution sector were really pleased to see the government putting this issue at the top of the agenda. It makes sense - after all, extreme weather events are becoming more and more common due to #climatechange, leading to shortages and hits to crop productivity. Plus, in the UK, we’ve got a growing population, and we import 46% of our food. At yesterday’s Redistribution Forum, co-ordinated by WRAP, we agreed that we feel hugely optimistic about the role maximising food redistribution can play in guaranteeing food security for the UK. We’re united by the belief that no food fit for human consumption should go to waste. Whether that’s through discounting, donating to charity, or sharing via community models, all edible surplus should feed humans (not anaerobic digestion or landfill). It won’t be possible to achieve food security if we don't urgently address the fact that only 7% of the UK’s food surplus is redistributed. If we fix that, we can put a stop to good food needlessly going to waste across the UK’s value chain, from farm to fork. We’d love to join the government at their next session to share our thoughts on how our sector can help. Thank you again to Sue Riley and Will Nicholson from WRAP for convening the redistribution sector yesterday. There was such a lot of talent and experience in the room that can and do help support industry stop food going to waste every day.
This sounds great. Please let me know when the next one is Olio • Share More, Waste Less & WRAP as FOOD AWARE COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY would like to add some input and be represented!
Such an important message - food security can't happen until we address food waste through redistribution 🧡
This was an awesome meeting. Huge thanks to WRAP for facilitating. We had an eclectic group of exceptional food redistributors, many different models but one united purpose - to do everything we can collectively to stop any good food from going to waste. This has never been more important than now for our people…and planet 🙏❤️🌍 x
Together we can stop perfectly good from going to waste and get it into the hands of the people who need it most. Thank you so much for including us in this, we are honored to be within such progressive organisations. 💚 💚 💚
It was fantastic to work with such a great group of colleagues across the sector , together we have the potential to step change the UKs performance in this vitiated environmental and social mission.
93% of surplus not redistributed - we have to change this.
Reducing food waste & enabling 100% redistribution of edible food surplus are at the heart of solving for food security (obviously!)

10moWe’ve got a long way to go to redistribute all the surplus food we have in the UK. But when we achieve that we’ll be much more food secure as a country 💪♻️
