We are looking forward to our next 6-week peer support online group, 'What's Your Story', which will run late-Aug to early October 2024. Facilitated by Lindy Jacomb and a trained counsellor, this programme is a safe, supportive and non-religious place for a group of 6 participants to share their exit from a high-demand religious group with each other; peers who uniquely understand the joys and challenges of the journey. 😊 'What's Your Story' suits former members who have been out for more than a year, as it has a focus on sharing 'life afterwards' as well as 'life in' - but feel free to get in touch to discuss if you are a recent leaver and think you are ready for this now. Contact us at support@nz.oliveleaf.network if you'd like to join our next group or our waitlist. #cultrecovery #religioustraumahealing #religioustrauma #oliveleafnetwork #exfundamentalist #coercivecontrol #igotout #highdemandreligiousgroup

Teaching children patience, respect, and effective communication skills is a vital aspect of their development. When kids interrupt, it’s an opportunity for us to guide them towards a more considerate and empathetic approach to conversation. By using positive language, acknowledging their struggle, and fostering empathy, we can help them grow into mindful individuals who appreciate the value of active listening and turn-taking in all their interactions. #PatienceAndRespect#TeachingChildren#EffectiveCommunication#NurturingSkills#EmpathyAndUnderstanding#RespectfulConversation#PositiveParenting#ActiveListening#CommunicationEtiquette#TeachingPatience #Parents #Raising #Kids

The lessons we are taught in the home, follow us into every aspect of our lives, including our business relationships. How are the things we experienced as children (good and bad) affecting our workplace behaviors? Are we setting our children up for success or failure, in what they learn at home? Something to consider…
When does EQ begin to develop? HOW does it start? It starts with the skills of self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness and building relationships, all in the first five years of life. And how do we ensure children are supported in these competencies from an early age? It all begins with trust. Where trust is, emotional intelligence can follow. #earlychildhoodeducation #earlylearning #emotionalintelligence #eq #empathy Full quote by Dr. Gordon Neufeld 'To foster independence we must first invite dependence; to promote individuation we must provide a sense of belonging and unity; to help the child separate we must assume the responsibility for keeping the child close. We help a child let go by providing more contact and connection than he himself is seeking. When he asks for a hug, we give him a warmer one than he is giving us. We liberate children not by making them work for our love but by letting them rest in it.'

I recently had a #parent share with me that teachers were speaking very unkindly around her child because her child is non-verbal. What often times teachers overlook is that #NonVerbal kids can #hear, #process, and experience #anxiety and #fear. We need to assume all children know what we are saying and the #IntentOfOurHeart, and #SpeakWithLove and #kindness. Share your experiences here. #AdvocatingForChange #AdvocatingForKids #ParentAdvocate #SpecialEducationAdvocate

The words used by a child's first trusted adults, especially if they shamed or neglected them, can become a part of their internal world. The picture of who they think they are. In our care for young people, especially those in and leaving the care system, we help them understand where some of these untrue beliefs have come from, how they impact their perception and action in the world, and, vitally, how to process and rewrite this. Seeing them gradually become free of those chains is incredibly moving, but it takes time and trusting, knowledgeable relationships. How are you supporting young people to undo their shame beliefs? How are you ensuring you build up their positive internal stories? #teacher #teaching #youthwork #shame #mentalhealth 🖌️ The image is a collaboration with young artist Laura Hawkins.
