You can find a lot of these people at Julie's Carboot Sale just outside Great Yarmouth on Sunday mornings. Crack o' dawn. Salt of the earth. Polystyrene cups of tea. Local people and their loot with cash, contact and plenty of time for trans-trestle-table conversation. You can learn a lot about people, their views and their habits by spending a few hours in a field with a pocket full of loose change. And if you work in sales you can do worse than go study the resident trader's techniques. Trader Ray: 'Look at 'ese larvly biscuits hare' - There's the physical directive 'Pound a pack foive fa fur' - There's the value 'Each one got foive diff'runt loike mini packs in ert' - Differentiation 'Perfect fa ya lunchbox when ya orf to work buh' - The functional benefit 'At's a week's wertha work biscuits furra pound that is' - Reinforcing the value Norfolk's Jordan Belfort. You could scroll LinkedIn for a year reading pointless posts like this and still get nowhere near what you can pick up from some quality time spent in the field - just unashamedly watching people go about their business. Sometimes it's difficult to get outside of the industry bubble. We think the whole nation are clambering over each other to see a video of CGI eyelashes on a train. Truth is they're not, they'd much rather be having a yarn with Ray and haggling someone down 50p for a DVD boxset of Cold Feet. PS.
