🐑 Understanding Why Wool Shrinks and How to Prevent It 🐑 Did you know? Wool shrinkage is all about the fibres reacting to changes in temperature and movement. This happens because wool’s natural fibres can tighten up when agitated during washing and drying. Preventing Shrinkage: Keep your wool items looking as good as new with these tips: 🚿 Hand Washing: Always use cool water and make sure to rinse with water at the same temperature to avoid shocking the fibres, which can lead to shrinkage. 🫧 Machine Washing: Before choosing to machine wash, consider your machine’s history with delicate items. Remember, no two wool cycles are alike and machines vary significantly in how gently they treat wool. ❌ Avoid the dryer: Lay flat to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Unsure? Go professional: If in doubt, dry cleaning is your best bet for maintaining the beauty and integrity of your wool items. When colored clothes are washed with white ones, the phenomenon of color bleeding occurs due to the presence of water-soluble dyes in the colored fabric. These dyes can diffuse from the colored clothing onto the white fabric during the washing process. The suggested remedy involves using lemon in warm water. Lemon contains citric acid, a weak organic acid with mild bleaching properties. When the white shirt is soaked in warm water with sliced lemon, the citric acid interacts with the color molecules, breaking them down or altering their chemical structure. This process is facilitated by the acidic nature of lemon, which aids in removing or lightening the color stains on the white shirt. Subsequent washing with detergent helps to further lift and wash away the loosened color particles. Sun-drying complements the process by providing additional bleaching through exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. UV light has a natural bleaching effect and can assist in restoring the original whiteness of the fabric. #Agrictips #Agricfuure #lifeofanagricstudent #chiefpriest

B2B Manager at Total Wardrobe Care * Supporting fine textile retailers with their sustainability missions through providing textile care ranges * Natural moth prevention expert * Creator of the Kilt Care Kit
No Moths Allowed! This company name, which I came across made me smile, perfectly summing up the essential need for crafters to use anti moth products. Who would want weeks of effort to be destroyed? It's a privilege to know that Total Wardrobe Care is protecting people's entire homes. Yarn/craft being a new market where little conversation is needed to see the immediate benefit, the companies and crafters are very eco minded. Which of our products is essential? The Decoy, a discreet pheromone tablet, used by the National Trust with news worthy success to stop reproduction. And the Chrysanthemum Killer spray killing the eggs too and then evaporating. Please avoid the chemical sprays which stay in the property, think of your staff and customers who are coming into contact with it. #yarn #weave #craft #wool #felt #ecoproducts #sustainability #moths #historicproperities #trusted

Introducing LITTLE R SWIPE Follow on from the previous R SWIPE post. Similar concept to the 400 ml version, but smaller and with a closing lid to use 'on the go'. OK, so this one isn't as such a solution to the sewer blockage problem (we already solved that right?). However, if we are to ultimately BAN wet wipes we need to cover the main use... BABIES. So here it is. For use with either washable cloths or some kind of soft tissues made from something 'nice'. Apparently cotton wool isn't that sustainable so something else please! (not currently made up by TOTALLY MADE UP). For use when a sink and tap isn't available, again for the 'FINAL WIPE'. Scope for a smaller pocket size version possible for 'BIG BABIES' on a night out perhaps? Again, refillable and made to be recycled. That's it... Solution to the wet wipes we can now look to BAN them. Single use floor cloths and surface cloths shouldn't even exist anyway right?

Dryer balls are often made of tightly compressed wool. They prevent clothes from clumping together in the dryer and allow for better circulation, which decreases overall drying time. The constant movement of the dryer balls against the fabric can also smooth wrinkles, prevent static, and soften clothes. Rubber and plastic dryer balls also exist. They tend to be noisier, but they do not shed tiny fibers, which can happen when using wool. Waters Express Laundry - Dye Stain Removal Tip. If the stain is still wet, spray with Spray 'n Wash and relaunder in warm water. Check the stain before putting it in the dryer. If the stain persists, repeat this process. If stain is dry, launder with chlorine bleach (if safe for the fabric); otherwise, use non-chlorine bleach. A commercial color remover may help; however, some stains may be impossible to remove. https://lnkd.in/eH2FG2w
