You need to act fast!!! As we all know, there is a lack of surveyors in the UK, and good surveyors are in high demand. And as a recruiter, clients often waste your time: "Please send CVs of any Building Surveyors you have; we need someone to start ASAP." I then send over 2-3 CVs, only to hear nothing for weeks as they contemplate advertising permanently or trying other agencies. In the long run, they'll struggle to find a high-quality surveyor at a below-market rate or from a cheap agency. Hiring a good contractor from a specialist agency will save money and time!!

Had an interesting call with a potential client, a developer seeking a Quantity Surveyor. They've been searching for over 2 months without success. When I suggested a Teams meeting, as I'm not in Manchester this week, the client declined, insisting on an immediate conversation or none at all. I clarified our policy of only working with clients we've met, mirroring how we handle candidate CVs. The client abruptly ended the call. I wonder if her Directors are aware this is how she's representing the company and perhaps why they can't attract the right candidates. Connecting with the right recruiter can save you time and money in the long run. I'm interested to know if any other recruiters, whatever the sector, would work with a client who wouldn't meet them? Whether via Teams or in-person, I'm open to meeting and discussing our thorough processes with anyone who is recruiting this year and we'll see if we can work together. #recruitment #consultant #bodenproperty

Here's the reason so many Quantity Surveyors are looking for a new job. No it's not salary...💲 Over 23% of Quantity Surveyors in NI either moved jobs this year, or actively looked to move. I speak to more than 50 candidates a week, considering a career move. The most common reason? PRESSURE 🎇 Quantity Surveyors are under massive amounts of pressure. Both internal and external. Messy processes, tight deadlines, delays in payments, sub-contractor issues. It often falls on the QS team to manage, and it all takes a toll. So they start looking for companies that can alleviate the pressure, through better processes and stronger structures Resonate with anyone? #IndustryTrends #QuantitySurveyor #VickerstockConstruction #MarketIntel Vickerstock

👷♂️ Finding a candidate that ticks all the boxes is tough in construction. We find that a lot of companies get stuck on the "years of experience" requirement, potentially missing out on great people. Here's a reality check: 🚫 Strict experience requirements can limit your options. A candidate with a stellar attitude and strong learning potential could be a better fit than someone with a bad attitude who checks all the experience boxes. 💸 Salary matters. If you can't offer the top salary for a senior role, consider a less experienced candidate with a lower salary expectation. Invest in training them to become the perfect fit for your company! 💡Think creatively. Sometimes, the best candidate isn't the exact title you advertised for. For example, a Quantity Surveyor with the right skills can make a great Commercial Manager. The key takeaway? Be open-minded! The current candidate shortage means it's a great time to consider candidates with slightly less experience, especially in roles like Estimators, Quantity Surveyors, and Senior Designers. #construction #constructionindustry #constructionuk

Hiring a contractor is all about balance. As an investor, you need to find the right mix of quality and cost. Cheap labor can lead to sloppy work, like a painter skipping important details. High-end contractors do great work, but their prices can cut into your profits. The best choice is finding a middle ground. #PropertyInvestmentTips #ContractorHiringGuide
