Human-centered design questions we need to be asking ourselves: 🌿 How can we use design as a means to make people feel better, to help them actually perform the task they're supposed to be doing in that building or space? 🌿 How can we create an office that encourages people to stop and talk and meet, to share ideas, to cross-fertilize, to share knowledge and skills, but also just to sit and recuperate? 🌿 How can we use design to deeply improve the quality of the environment in our homes, workplaces, schools, hospitals and public areas? 🌿How can our work in the built environment have greater focus on and inspiration from nature, in the knowledge that this will create benefits for: individuals; teams; communities; cities; biodiversity; climate? Oliver Heath, Director of Oliver Heath Design, discusses how biophilic design is a really important human-centered opportunity to create a better built environment, in this episode of the Biophilic Solutions podcast with Jennifer Walsh and Monica Olsen. Apparently it's one of their most popular episodes! Why not add it to your weekend play list . https://lnkd.in/eSdmGR64 #biophilicdesign #biophilia #humancentereddesign #builtenvironment #biophilicsolutions #naturebaseddesign #naturebasedsolutions

“Without the service there really is no hospitality.” Our guest this week is a designer whose work has shaped some of the most iconic skylines in the United States. Please welcome to the show, Chief Design Officer at Extell, Roy Kim! Dan Ryan sits down with Roy on location at One Manhattan Square to dive into the importance of marrying the service and spatial aspects of hospitality. Roy shares more on what makes Extell so unique, the importance of always considering the views, and how to design around a sequence of spaces. 🏨 Hospitality has two components, spatial and service. In many cases, the service aspect outweighs design. The way you treat and take care of guests will stay with them longer than the design choices. 🏨 When choosing amenities for a project, you need to consider two different types. First are common amenities missing from the area, and second are unique amenities that will help draw people to the building. I help operators of built environments and their design, build, and manage partners take control of signage and wayfinding assets throughout their lifecycle.
Gideon Wilkinson's Endpoint. podcast interview with Ocean Liu from HOK (a SignAgent client) is an excellent introduction to the depth of thought, passion and experience that go into creating successful wayfinding programs, particularly in healthcare settings. Don't have half an hour? Listen from 10:00 to 11:00. Here's a quote from that section: "We often talk about healthcare interior design as patient-focused design, but...it’s not just about patients. There are many staff members of a hospital…and creating a good environment for them that promotes efficiency in their work is extremely important, of course, for patient recovery." #healthcaredesign #hospitalwayfinding #environmentalgraphicdesign #egd
Ocean Liu – a Senior Associate and Senior Project Interior Designer at HOK – is a long-time Endpoint collaborator. Together, we’ve worked on various projects where interior design and wayfinding combine to drive the visitor experience. In this episode of the Wayfinding X Change podcast, Gideon and Ocean explore her design work, the collaborative process, and her approach to visitor experience.
