Executives that haven't hired #Finance or #RevOps or #businessIntelligence positions in a long time are getting serious sticker shock from how the market has moved. As a result they are cutting out Junior analysts and focusing on outcomes. I'm seeing a lot go to agencies/ fractional (similar to what we see in Marketing, Accounting, etc.). Wonder if anyone has some solid data around hiring to back it up (or refute it).

CFOs often ask me what to look for when hiring for an FP&A role. Having been fortunate enough to work with 100's of FP&A leaders across different companies… Here are some key factors to consider for your next hire: 1. Hire a data analyst rather than a finance analyst → You can teach finance but you can't teach the data mindset. 2. Hire a strategic thinker, not just a budget manager → Numbers follow strategy, not the other way around. 3. Hire a storyteller, not just a spreadsheet expert → Data is useless unless you can tell the story behind it. Prioritize curiosity over credentials. And that's how you build a winning FP&A team.

Staffing In the next 60 days or so, I need to make some hires (could be as needed, part-time, or full-time). Here's what I'm thinking: 1️⃣ Head of Marketing/Content Creation I've been able to get The Fractional Analyst off the ground with my basic understanding of video creation/editing, website design/branding, my direct relationships, and of course financial models. What I need from my Head of Marketing/Content Creation is someone that can not only do the above (excl. financial models), but who can show me my blind spots and 10x my product revenue. List building, email marketing, etc. This may need to be several people, which I'm open to. 2️⃣ Fractional Analysts I currently work with 3 contract analysts at a time to get different things done. If you have an interest in being available for real estate related contract work, I may have a need to bring someone in-house full-time, but for the time being, it's nice to have people available that I can farm out certain tasks to. 3️⃣ Head of Data Science As an analyst, one of my core offerings is to provide my clients with high-quality data and synthesize that data in visually appealing ways. I need someone with a great background in data science, both the aggregating and visualization of that data. Please keep in mind that I started The Fractional Analyst <30 days ago, so I am absolutely open to suggestions on what these roles need to look like in order for the company to flourish. Looking forward to growing together! Josh Stoddard Alex Nicholson Somewhere Nathan Sonnenberg Mitchell Rice Jason Appel Asaf Bochman👨🍳 BYU Real Estate Association BYUI Real Estate Investment and Development Society Florida State University - College of Business These are just some of the people/groups that came to mind. If you have an interest in working with The Fractional Analyst, please send me a message in The Fractional Analyst inbox or connect with with me on my personal account Spencer Vickers.

CEO & Founder at Aimplan - Extending Power BI with planning, forecasting, and enhanced reporting to help organizations exceed their goals
Finding FP&A talent is hard. Here's why: Things are changing fast with technological advancements. And FP&A requires people who can provide strategic insights. The old siloed finance function doesn't cut it anymore. FP&A professionals must tell compelling stories. With so much new data available, FP&A must have the ability to work cross-functionally with IT and data scientists to build predictive models that drive decisions. While Excel still matters, FP&A must be comfortable learning new planning and analytics software like Aimplan.com and others to automate processes and get better analytics. Take note: Companies are now hiring for potential, not just credentials.
