This is how I define boundaries. Great question I was asked today. Here's the thing: boundaries are a social construct. We can only experience their impacts e.g. in these areas: PLATO ↳ People: the ability to choose what impacts us physically, emotionally and psychologically ↳ Location: the ability to shape our environment ↳ Action: the ability to choose what we want to do ↳ Time: the ability to choose how we use our time ↳ Objects: the ability to choose how we use things (‘property’) Any other areas? We'll talk about this in more detail during the deep dive on Thursday. Join us at the online Boundaries Clinic to prioritise your needs without sacrificing your mission. Link in comments.

The ❤️ of healthcare and humanity! Sharing a brief video of my white coat ceremony remarks highlighting the meaning of the ceremony, Netter’s artistic connection to humanism, and how the heart-hand gesture represents the 3 dimensions of compassionate care. “Through this rite of passage, we are reminded of who we are, why we are here, and who we aspire to be.” ——— Read more for a behind-the-scenes communication tip on welcoming unexpected interruptions in a presentation: 👇 Just after I stated the quote above (30 seconds in), a baby let out a huge cry that could be heard throughout the arena. You can’t hear the cry on this tape, but you can hear my lighthearted response: “I agree!” By acknowledging the baby’s cry, I invited it into my presentation rather than framing it as an external distraction. 👉How to welcome an unexpected interruption during a presentation? Briefly acknowledge it with lightness and humor—and quickly continue with your presentation. Audiences always follow the lead and comfort of the speaker. And the baby’s cry added a beautifully unexpected element of humanity that brought smiles to all around once it was acknowledged. And that is the heart of humanity! ❤️ #WhatInspiresMe #Compassion #Communication #AcademicMedicine #MedEd

New @datawrapper feature: Option for cropped views for choropleth maps. Why this feature? Sometimes, just a part of a map is populated with data or only a specific part (for example, the number of hospitals in the north of Germany, etc.) Blog posts how this works: https://lnkd.in/ebRmbqBa

Grateful to ADARA: Excellence in Service Delivery to Individuals Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing for giving me the opportunity to present on “Strategic Insights into Organizations that Serve our Community.” Key takeaways from the session: • Legislation can be enacted based on a single needs assessment, as was the case in Connecticut. They now have a mandate and funding to create a new bureau for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, among other achievements. • Statewide priorities can be immediately apparent through data collection, analysis, and reporting. In Louisiana, an ASL Interpreter needs assessment revealed what needed to be done to change the situation. Since then, they have done an incredible job with new strategic initiatives intended to bring about these important outcomes. Integrating data into strategic conversations drives significant and lasting change. Together, we can harness the power of data to shape a brighter future for our communities.
