At the Stanford Chariot Program, clinicians collaborate with engineers to develop our own VR software tailored for pediatric patients in healthcare settings. In the Chariot VR app Spaceburgers2, patients pedal on a stationary bike to fire blasters at burgers zipping by. The patients take aim with their gaze inside a VR headset. In this fantasy space world, the faster a patient pedals, the quicker ketchup squirts out at the hamburgers hurtling through space. In our experience at the hospital and in clinics, we have seen the app helps distract patients undergoing physical therapy. This system, tested on children aged 2 to 13, enables them to play games and watch videos using only their eyes, reducing anxiety and minimizing movement.
