Jo, your message highlights the critical challenges that service providers across England are grappling with. While our sectors differ, the financial strain from increased NI contributions, thresholds, and the NLW impacts us all in delivering essential care. Commissioners must understand the unique pressures across the care sector, so we can all continue to provide high-quality support to those in need. Ambition24direct
As a CEO of a not for profit, charitable provider of statutory services, I have been left shocked by the disregard for our sector in Rachel Reeve’s first budget. The scale of the impact of the increase in NI contribution rate, the lowering of the NI threshold and the increase in NLW is immense, running into millions and so far there is no sign that any exemption, like that given to public bodies, will be offered to providers. Whilst the increase to NLW is welcome, because our frontline staff deserve so much more, we need to see an appreciation from our local authority and NHS commissioners of the scale of the challenge we are facing and the extent to which we will need their funding support if we are to continue to provide the services, on their behalf, to which vulnerable people in their communities are statutorily entitled.

Rutter's Children's Charities contributed $100,000 to Rutter’s annual Secret Santa initiative, to support local charities and causes that matter most to our employees. Employees selected a wide range of local organizations to receive the funds, focusing on causes such as children’s education, food insecurity, healthcare, and family support services. Rutter’s Children’s Charities Secret Santa initiative is in its eighth year with a total of more than $550,000 directed to employees for causes that mean the most to them. This initiative has provided significant support to these organizations, enhancing their ability to serve the community during the holiday season and beyond. #whyworkanywhereelse #community

The timing of the postal strike during the holiday season is creating real challenges for postal workers and many Canadians who rely on these essential services. But what is not receiving as much attention is the Canadian charities that are also being impacted. Christmas is when giving peaks, yet many donations sent by mail are now delayed or won’t arrive in time for year-end tax receipts. Seasonal appeals that rely on traditional mail are also being disrupted, especially for charities that depend on these campaigns to fund their critical work. For some, this means missing out on matching gift opportunities, where every dollar is doubled. For charities supporting vulnerable populations, this impact is devastating. If you’re planning to support a cause this season, consider giving online, by phone, or in person to ensure your gift gets where it’s needed. Now more than ever, your generosity can make a difference. #SeasonOfGiving #SupportLocalCharities #MakeAnImpact
Almost a month in, the Postal Strike is already affecting charities like Coast Mental Health Foundation. Delays in deliveries and donations are happening at a time when support is needed the most. We understand the importance of fairness and equity in labor disputes, even as we face these challenges. If you choose to give to us this season, we want to make sure your gift gets to us by December 31 so you can receive your 2024 charitable tax receipt. Here are some other ways to give while the post is not an option: 1. Drop-Off: Bring your cash or cheque to our office: 293 E. 11th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5T 2C4 (reception is by the parking lot) 2. Online: Donate easily and securely through our website 3. By Phone: Call our team at 604.675.2323 Every donation made before December 31 will be matched up to $150,000, thanks to the generosity of Andrea Sauder. That means your gift will go twice as far!

In light of today's announcement regarding increased funding for hospices, our CEO, Steve Smith, has shared the following statement. "We welcome today's announcement by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care regarding the additional support for the hospice sector. "It is encouraging to see that the government acknowledge the vital care and support that hospices, like Havens Hospices, provide within the community, ensuring that babies, children and adults receive the care they deserve when the end of their life is in sight. "Hospices throughout the UK are facing financial challenges as increasing demand and rising costs put pressure on these independent charities. Just 29% of Havens Hospices' funding comes from the government, with the remainder relying on the generosity of local communities through donations, purchasing from our charity shops, taking part in events, or leaving a gift in their will. "While we welcome the announcement, we look forward to receiving further details about the funding arrangements in the new year and understanding how it will impact our charity."

In response to the recent UK Budget announcement, we’re facing tough news for charities like ours—impacting our ability to support children facing serious illnesses and their families. While we welcome increased NHS funding, the increased employer contributions mean we will need to divert funding away from the services that we provide to families, including counselling, peer to peer support, a range of creative therapy services, and respite breaks.
