Let's talk about #equipment #maintenance Do you have to maintain the equipment you provide for your workers? The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 require that "Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair." How can you do this? Choose your maintenance strategy by taking into account 👉 Frequency of use 👉 User competency 👉 Work environment 👉 Manufacturer's recommendations 👉 The risk from foreseeable failure and maintenance The 3 strategies are - 1️⃣ Planned preventative maintenance. This strategy is based on the definable working life of parts. Inspecting, maintaining, servicing and replacing these parts according to a schedule is intended to reduce or avoid breakdowns and failures of equipment. 2️⃣ Condition based maintenance This relies on monitoring the condition of equipment and carrying out maintenance when performance starts to deteriorate, indicating that failure is likely. This relies on a robust system of feedback and the ability to take equipment out of use as soon as its performance starts to deteriorate. 3️⃣ Breakdown maintenance This is carried out when a piece of equipment has failed. This can be cost saving in terms of monitoring equipment, but allowing a piece of equipment to fail and can lead to more costly repairs as well as presenting risk to workers. Whatever maintenance strategy strategy you choose, you must ✅ Test safety related parts routinely ✅ Keep any maintenance logs up to date ✅ Inspect equipment as required by other regulations like LOLER ✅ Ensure testing is carried out in accordance with a safe system of work #HealthAndSafety #WorkplaceSafety #EquipmentMaintenance #LegalCompliance #SafetyFirst #OccupationalHealth #SafetyStandards #RegulatoryCompliance #RiskManagement #SafetyConsulting #WorkplaceWellness #IndustrialSafety #ComplianceMatters #EHS #SafeWorkplace #LegalResponsibilities #SafetyCulture #PreventiveMaintenance #smallbusiness #CorporateSafety #acumensafety
