Magnesium Supplementation among healthy active adults in Malaysia by Dr Sanjiv Rampal ,Orthopaedic Consultant ,Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Dietary supplementation has become increasingly popular among healthy active adults, with numerous benefits to cardiovascular health and overall well-being. One supplement that stands out is magnesium, which has been shown to improve blood micronutrient status, cellular energy metabolism, and immune health. Magnesium can prevent or reverse declines in vitamin biomarkers and limit declines in cellular O2 consumption, making it an essential supplement for healthy adults. However, the recommended dosage varies based on several factors, including age, body mass index, country, duration of disease, baseline magnesium level, and baseline glycemic control condition. For optimal glycemic, circulating lipids, and blood pressure control, the recommended dosages and durations are 279 mg/d for 116 days, 429 mg/d for 88 days, and 300 mg/d for 120 days, respectively. It's best to choose supplements that provide adequate magnesium intake from both food sources and supplements, with a focus on specific subgroups such as men, older adults, individuals with normal BMI, and those with higher dietary fiber intake. Incorporating magnesium supplementation into your daily routine can have a significant impact on your overall health and well-being.
