Reflecting on Juneteenth and its profound significance: Juneteenth reminds us that the journey from proclamation to true freedom is often long and challenging. Just as there was a delay between the Emancipation Proclamation and the actual realization of freedom for enslaved people, our personal and societal struggles require persistent effort to achieve genuine liberation. What are your thoughts on this parallel journey toward real freedom? #juneteenth

I recently wrote an article on a topic I found interesting, and apt for the current times, about the fickle nature of liberation and those rights regarding egality that are in increasingly in danger. I would love to hear your thoughts on the same!

The Black community has celebrated Juneteenth for decades, but it was only three years ago this day became a federal holiday. That declaration served as a call to action for everyone to recognize Juneteenth, as a day to reflect on the legacy of slavery and engage in long-overdue work for racial justice. There are still signs that our institutions continue to systematically undervalue Black lives and experiences: - Black women face one of the largest pay gaps of any demographic group, earning just 62 cents for every dollar paid to white men in similar roles. - Job applicants with white-sounding names get 50% more callbacks than identical job applicants with Black-sounding names. - There are only two Black women CEOs in the Fortune 500. I hope you take active steps to bridge the diversity, equity, and inclusion gaps within your own companies.
Also known as Freedom Day, #Juneteenth serves as a reminder of the horribly delayed emancipation of enslaved people in Confederate states. Despite its significance, common myths and misunderstandings surrounding the holiday still persist. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gdPwZ_eC

Executive Coach for Driven Executives, Emerging Leaders, and Overwhelmed Entrepreneurs looking for purpose, accountability, and professional development.
On this Juneteenth, I encourage you to reflect on the meaning of free. The Oxford Dictionary defines #free as "not under the control or in power of another; able to act or be done as one wishes." "not or no longer confined or imprisoned." "not subject to or constrained by engagements or obligations." For over 400 years, individuals of African descent were enslaved in this country, along with other parts of the World. They were not free. The Emancipation Proclamation "freed" enslaved people in the Confederacy, but it took years for all enslavers to free all of the enslaved people that they owned within the United States. Now that all Americans are legally guaranteed freedom (outside of those convicted of violating our laws), we must decide what it means to be free. No one is making you work for the company you work for. No one is restricting your ability to vote. No one man has the power to control your actions. So what will you do with your freedom? I hope you make the world a kinder, more welcoming place. We have one life, and one earth. While we are here, we must share it with others. We might as well get along, find some joy, and make the most of our time on this planet. #reflection #meaning #purpose #Juneteenth #DEI #inclusion #free

In our Henley Global Mobility Report 2024 Q1, Dr. Christian H. Kaelin, Chairman of Henley & Partners and the inventor of the passport index, discusses humanity and how, based on reason, it excludes a large range of individuals. Dr. Kaelin, in his new book, Citizenship and Human Rights — From Exclusive and Universal to Global Rights: A New Framework, examines the philosophical nature of the concepts that represent the current foundation of our understanding of human rights, and presents a new theory of global human rights that aims to overcome the tensions between the global (universal human rights, humanity, and such) and the local (citizenship, particularist identities and values). In the tapestry of time, where threads of joy and sorrow intertwine, Juneteenth stands as a vibrant, poignant reminder of the enduring human spirit. It's a celebration of freedom, a testament to the unwavering hope that blossomed amidst the darkest of times. Today, we remember the agonizing chains of slavery, the stolen dreams, the unyielding courage of those who dared to fight for a future where chains were broken and hearts were free. We honor the generations who endured unimaginable hardships, their spirit unbroken, their belief in liberty unyielding. Juneteenth is more than a date on a calendar; it's a beacon of hope, a testament to the enduring power of resilience. It's a call to action, a reminder that the fight for equality is never truly over. As we raise our voices in celebration, let us not forget the sacrifices made, the struggles faced, the long road still ahead. Let it be a time for reflection, for introspection, for recommitment to the pursuit of a more just and equitable society. May these echoes of freedom continue to reverberate, reminding us that freedom is a fragile gift, a right to be fiercely protected, and a dream worth fighting for every single day. #juneteenth #Freedom

Celebrating Juneteenth: Honoring Persistence and Global Struggles for Freedom. Today, I learned more about Juneteenth and why it is celebrated as a public holiday in the United States. As we commemorate Juneteenth, I reflect on its profound significance and the lessons it offers about perseverance and the pursuit of justice. Juneteenth marks the June 19, 1865, announcement in Galveston, Texas, where Union soldiers declared the end of slavery—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This delay underscores the resilience of those who endured oppression and the determination required to achieve true freedom. I was deeply moved to understand its importance as a public holiday in the United States. It serves as a reminder of the struggles and triumphs along the path to equality. From the abolitionist movement to the Civil Rights era and beyond, countless individuals and communities have fought tirelessly for civil rights and social justice, inspiring us to advocate for a more just and inclusive society. Juneteenth also resonates with ongoing global struggles for freedom, such as the plight of English-speaking Cameroonians. Since 2016, these regions have faced unrest and conflict due to grievances over political and linguistic marginalization. Their struggle echoes the historical fight for liberty and underscores the universal yearning for self-determination and respect for basic human rights. Today, let us honor the sacrifices of our forefathers and foremothers who paved the way for freedom. Their courage in the face of adversity continues to inspire us. May Juneteenth serve as a call to action—a moment to reflect on our shared history, promote understanding, and advocate for justice worldwide. Happy Juneteenth to all. May we carry forward the lessons of our history with humility and a commitment to progress, standing in solidarity with all those who seek freedom and equality. #juneteenth #freedom #equality #justice #resilience

We are a nation of diverse cultures, religions, and beliefs, but we are all bound together by a common thread - humanity. Let us embrace our differences and celebrate our unique perspectives, for it is in our diversity that we find strength. Let us break free from the shackles of prejudice and discrimination, and come together as one people, one nation. Let us recognize that every religion, every faith, and every belief is a path to the same ultimate truth - love, compassion, and kindness. Quote: "We are all children of the same universe, born of the same earth, and breathing the same air. Let us unite in our humanity, and celebrate our independence from the chains of division."
