A colleague nominated Karen: "Patients can always be assured of a kind set of listening ears, a quiet and gentle laugh when appropriate, and that their concerns will be communicated to their providers." Former White House Medical Officer | Clinician | Strategic Medical Planner | Physician Associate Leader | Adjunct Professor | TS-SCI
To my fellow medical professionals, Let's face it - we're often our own worst patients when it comes to seeking medical care. As we step into the New Year, I urge us to break that pattern. As healthcare professionals, it's not only important to advocate for the well-being of our patients but also to prioritize our own. Last month, I underwent a colonoscopy/endoscopy due to a family history of early colon cancer. While it was a minor inconvenience, it was a critical step in line with early screening criteria. Sharing this is a personal step, underscoring the profound importance of taking charge of our health. A colonoscopy is more than just a screening tool; it's a crucial step, especially after age 45! The American Cancer Society and U.S.Preventive Services Task Force strongly endorse it for early detection of issues. My challenge to all of us this year is to continue to set the standard for comprehensive healthcare, not only for our patients but for ourselves as well. #Colonoscopy #HealthScreening #PreventionMatters #HealthcareProfessionals #WellnessJourney
