New images of Apollolaan 171 by Ossip van Duivenbode. Designed by OMA / David Gianotten and commissioned by the Kroonenberg Groep, Apollolaan 171 – recently nominated for the ARC24 Architectuur Award – replaces the original bank building with an open and tactile design: a transparent glass façade along the Apollolaan marks the contemporary office’s inviting character; a brick façade facing the Titiaanstraat integrates it with the neighborhood’s historical architecture. Midcentury modern architecture, it seems, will never go out of style. After suffering a blip of critical revulsion in the 1980s and early ’90s, this movement based in artful simplicity, functionality, and modernity roared back and hasn’t faded since. But what does modernism—midcentury or otherwise—offer that makes us keep returning to it? Modern architecture stands out with its open floor plans, minimal ornamentation, clear lines, and subtle colours. Contemporary architecture, on the other hand, is identified by its simple plan, minimal use of colour, and design. Potato, potahto, right? Maybe not. Modern and contemporary architecture look so similar that many people mistake them for synonyms. After all, they have a lot in common. But that’s not true because one is an art movement influenced by a revolution, while the other is just another word for ‘trending’. Let’s dive deeper into the debate of modernism vs contemporary architecture. Read the article published by SMART Official

This design is a stunning fusion of natural elements with futuristic architecture. The spherical shape, crafted from glass, provides a 360-degree view and the waterfalls add a dynamic, flowing element that contrasts with the building's static nature. The water feature not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but could also contribute to natural cooling. The building's transparency and reflection of light create a feeling of openness and space. The inclusion of greenery at the top of the sphere introduces a touch of nature, adding to the building's sustainability aspect. Rating such a design would depend on several factors, including functionality, sustainability, and integration with its surroundings. However, for its visual appeal and innovative use of elements, the design could be rated around 9 out of 10. It captures attention and imagination, making it a potential landmark.

The “Mercado Groningen” project was initiated by real estate developers MWPO and Beauvast with the vision of transforming a small, ordinary street into the vibrant heart of Groningen’s inner city. To bring this ambitious idea to life, two renowned architecture firms, Loer Architecten and De Zwarte Hond, joined forces in a collaborative effort. This multifaceted development consists of two distinct components: a bustling market on the ground floor and luxurious apartments situated above. The design embodies resilience, contemporaneity, and practicality while exuding inward and outward aesthetic appeal. The transparent design of the building’s base allows the market’s light to illuminate the surrounding streets at night, creating an inviting atmosphere. The building's facade incorporates approximately 1,400m² of green glazed terracotta, skillfully integrated around windows and balcony doors. To achieve a remarkable sense of depth and playfulness, eight different dies were employed, with extruded shapes cut to specific lengths and angles. The green glaze, resembling the brilliance of emeralds, is achieved through NBK’s unique double-fire process, ensuring a consistent glazed finish on all surfaces and edges. This meticulous approach enhances the aesthetic appeal of visible edges, contributing to the overall visual harmony. The application of a semi-transparent FLUID GLAZE, known for its higher liquidity, allows the glaze to flow according to the panel’s geometry, resulting in a consistent variation in glaze density. This interplay between natural light, the clay’s inherent color and texture, and the glaze’s density results in an intricate visual experience. Thanks to this glaze, the building appears a different color in every type of weather, and a layering of color and form can be discerned adding a touch of artistry that refers to the richness of Groningen’s historical buildings and the optimistic rawness of post-war architecture. #architecturedesign #terracottafacade #citydevelopment #nbkterracotta #creativedesign

Minimalistic architecture embodies simplicity, emphasizing clean lines, open spaces, and a sense of tranquility. It focuses on essential elements, stripping away ornamentation to achieve a pure aesthetic. Functionality takes precedence, with every design element serving a purpose. Spaces are uncluttered, fostering a sense of calm and clarity. Natural light and materials play pivotal roles, enhancing the minimalist experience. Each detail is carefully curated, contributing to a harmonious whole. Minimalistic architecture challenges the notion that more is better, opting instead for refined simplicity that evokes a profound sense of beauty and serenity in its purest form. #Minimalism #Architecture #Simplicity #CleanLines #FunctionalDesign #MinimalistSpaces #LessIsMore #PureAesthetic #Tranquility #MinimalistLiving #Harmony #NaturalMaterials #ClutterFree #MinimalistInteriors #SimpleElegance Marcio Leão Parastoo Azad Nitesh Kumar Purohit Pareekh Jain Dr.Subramanian, Ph.D., FNAE, F.ASCE, M.ACI Narayanan Felipe Ochoa Cornejo 👨🏻🏫🇨🇱 Yeo Chee Min Oliver Jones Tanvir Hussain Prashant Srivastava Civil Er.Jai Kumar Tiwari Nitin Gupta Florian Palatini Grant LeBeau, EIT Gregory Harington Rajashekar Bhukya

Minimalism is a movement that cuts across all streams of society as a philosophy. In Architecrure it fundamentally implies a design philosophy that encourages exploration of a very pure timeless creation that inherently enjoys the beauty of space, form and materials.

This design is a striking example of futuristic architecture, integrating elements of motion and technology. The fluidity of the lines and the seamless integration of different materials create a sense of movement, emulating a train in flight. The reflective surfaces add depth and a sense of continuity with the environment. Wood accents provide organic warmth, balancing the cooler marble and metallic tones. The expansive glass allows natural light to penetrate the space, which would make the interior environment inviting. The layering of the structure gives it depth and complexity, suggesting a multi-functional space within. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is outstanding, this design could be rated around a 9 for its visionary concept, attention to detail, and the emotional response it elicits, imagining a journey beyond traditional boundaries.

We present Bubble, the modular bookcase designed by Gianmarco Miolo, combining formal rigor with the dynamism of shapes. Inspired by architecture, the bookcase evokes elegance through its minimal structure, remindful of beams and pillars. Once inhabited, it transforms into a constantly evolving work shaped by the objects it contains. Its distinctive touch lies in the customizable placement of colorful circular trays, reminiscent of the concept of a bubble: a dynamic element, never the same and constantly changing. The Bubble bookcase further transforms into a dynamic architectural piece, thanks to the option of customizing it with glass shelves. The result is fascinating: personal items placed on these surfaces seem to float in midair. Alternatively, removing the shelves opens up space and flexibility for managing objects of different sizes. This versatility gives the bookcase a double or triple height architectural appearance, adding a touch of creativity while retaining its elegant appeal. Redefining opulence, the Bella Vista pushes the envelope for design. A captivating modern design with sleek accents, geometric mirrors and rich wood transforms this into a sophisticated space. The dark moody palette offset by copper tones displayed in the use of a structural light fixture with stems ending in globular light makes this a powder room that is more - an experience in fine craftsmanship and design. #Habitation #Habitat_Space #InteriorDesign #ArchitecturalProjects #ArchitecturalInsights #IndianArchitects #Architecture #ContemporaryDesign #LuxuryArchitecture #InstaArch #HabitatArchitects #HabitatHousing #HousingProjects #VerticalHousing #LuxuryLiving
