Building YellowBag | Applying Business for Social Good | Environment Consciousness, Equity & Economic Development
This is a meeting, but none can speak. A small group of hearing-impaired people are coming together. They are partnering with another caste-discriminated low-income community to conduct a community Pongal festival. On Jan 16th, their streets will be loaded with events, children’s programs, games, stage, sound, and music. This is not the reason for my awe. But below is! - This is their 4th planning meeting. - So far, 30+ people have attended every meeting. - No travel reimbursements, refreshments, or incentives for attending. - On the contrary, they have to buy gifts, pay for the stage, sound, etc., - 85K is the budget and they have only 8k in hands. I ask them "You gain no benefit by conducting this festival, why are you organizing this?" Their answer "This is an opportunity for all of us to get together. What else?". What else? Note: If you want to support them, consider sending Rs.500 to their co-ordinator Meyyapan's G-Pay number 9597092640 (He can speak).

If you think that people don’t have money and are not buying, then you need to hear this. 2.5 million people registered for around 200,000 Glastonbury Festival 2024 tickets at £360 each. And the tickets sold out in around 30 mins. This highlights a few interesting things: 1) that there are people who do have money to spend. 2) that creating a waiting list prior to selling can be a good business strategy. 3) that the organisers could have charged a higher price for the tickets given the demand, but didn’t as they don’t want the festival to become elitist. I’m one of the people that tried to get a ticket for the full festival and failed. Though I did manage to get a locals Sunday only ticket. With hindsight, one day will probably be enough for me, lol. The festival starts today. Who else is going? #glastonburyfestival #pricingstrategy #financialcoach #moneymentor #madaboutmoney #retirerich

With the sun shining there's one thing on my mind- FESTIVAL SEASON. But with ticket costs at record high, and 36 festivals cancelling/postponing in 2024 so far, with ~100 predicted, the crisis has been cited as worse than Covid (John Roston, AIF CEO). To quell the doom and gloom I wanted to highlight a few campaigns aiming to buck these alarming trends, interested to hear of any others too! Drop the Headliner is one such campaign that's gained some traction, with SGP adopting the scheme this week . When one headliner can easily cost £100,000+, dropping just one big act can either save money or allow for better allocation of funds to improve experience. UK Music, a collective industry voice, are urging the UK government to cut VAT on tickets from 20% to 10% to bring them in line with the average EU rate. Whereas the Association of Independent Festivals is calling for this to drop to 5% for 3 years to offer a relief buffer. https://lnkd.in/eTDPCX-y. https://lnkd.in/eXWXJVXW https://lnkd.in/e3sUtqsj

Warning: this is not a conference for the built environment. If you come to Pattern Festival 2024 expecting a standard industry experience, you won’t get one. We aim to entertain, inform, inspire and surprise you. Our placemaking event is a festival, not a conference. We’ve deliberately chosen to call it that. What makes it a festival? We’ve got a varied lineup of guest speakers, panellists and presenters, many of whom you wouldn’t normally associate with the built environment. We want to move the dial, celebrate grassroots activity and put progressive placemaking firmly on the agenda. Why don’t you join us? Pattern Festival 2024 is on 19 June, at x+why, Victoria Embankment, Manchester. Tickets are on sale now. Limited availability. www.patternfest.com

Good morning, America 🫡 📕 It’s been a nonstop few weeks for @reading_rhythms...and a lesson in how momentum breeds momentum, including a feature on one of the most watched TV programs in the United States (Good Morning America) Quick lil' recap: 📺 RR on @goodmorningamerica 👀 one of our largest events ever at the iconic @hudsonyards 🌳 “casual” park hangs turning into 100 person events ☑️ first sponsored events with @harpercollins, @epicreads @marinerbooks … The secret sauce? It’s easy - an unbelievably world class team that makes each event easeful, consistent, and evocative. Whether it’s @erica_figliolia finding gorgeous venues, @naturallynicoletta matching hosts to parties, Alexa Abrams putting on a masterclass in booking music, @owenciha stepping up as a coordinator, @ash_artrip putting us all to shame in literally 5 categories, @john_lif as the systems genius, @benbradbury as the man who makes it all work, @allybarron1 on coverage and capturing the vibe … it truly takes a tribe. 📚 The key to building really great communities? Consistency & trust in those that make the community what it is. It truly takes a village - without the key parts in place, none of it works.

Want to pack the stands for your next band competition? Here are 3 ways that using online ticketing can make that easier! 🎟️🎟️ 1. You can partner with your local band sponsors and ask them to co-promote the event. If they have a physical location, take them a flyer or small poster with a QR code to purchase tickets immediately. 2. Send an email to your parent and alumni list with a link to purchase in the email. 3. Consider holding a festival before the competition and invite other local performing arts studios to participate. Use the QR code and online ticketing to make it simple for their parents and families to purchase tickets. And sell and scan ticket sales at the gate make the experience easy for people to show up on the day of the competition. #marchingband #softwarestartup

"ACEs science can prevent school shootings; first people have to learn about ACEs science." Jane Stevens, ACEsConnection
🌎This is what we’re talking about! ❤️Imagine such an event happening across the U.S. in conjunction with local Boys & Girls Clubs of America, YMCA of the USA (National Resource Office), and YWCA USA groups so we could be sure local events are community-led and culturally appropriate! This is the kind of thing, Biden for President, that could activate young voters and volunteers. By helping all people become aware of the impact of positive and adverse childhood experiences — how supporting the positive and working to prevent adverse childhood experiences — ACEs — at all levels, especially the systemic ACEs of racism, poverty, cultural oppression, inequity, the wholesale lack of support for young families (as we see as a matter of course with paid family leave, which is offered in EVERY OTHER industrialized nation) we can build a groundswell. Federal $$$ supporting education and grassroots work in cross-sector communities could make all the difference. A public health campaign to raise awareness of the need to bring every sector of each community into this work to prevent and heal ACEs and to promote positive childhood experiences (PCEs) and true community-supported resilience? It would be revitalizing to tell the truth about generational trauma stories in this nation: genocide, land theft, kidnapping, enslavement — and to let truths of collective historical trauma in each community be a firm foundation of creating compassion, empathy, and concern for the wellbeing of one another. Truth for youth, with kids in each community learning their respective history, and perhaps being able to use the tools created by ACEs Matter — the wonderful “family trees” examining adverse and positive childhood experiences across generations — could be a great way to start. Imagine starting this on Juneteenth and having community events culminating w/celebrations of our original land-holders on Indigenous People’s Day, October 14, 2024. Along the way League of Women Voters and others could help youth register to vote, and perhaps engage youth in helping family members register. This idea was prompted by the great work of Jeff Linkenbach and Carla Ritz at The Montana Institute. Perhaps Prevent Child Abuse America and other organizations mentioned herein, with the help of NAMI and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA) and CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, would want to help lead such an effort. Corporate and government support working together to activate around truth telling and celebrating youth? Could be a public health engagement campaign that could help prevent isolation and gain support from our forward-thinking Surgeon General, who is definitely concerned about youth suicide and isolation.
