Does your child have a special talent? As parents, we know our kids are unique. But what if they show real promise and passion, especially in the performing arts? Mainstream schools may not always support their dreams. That's where specialist performing arts schools shine! They offer rigorous training alongside academic education, creating a nurturing environment for talented kids to thrive. Consider exploring these schools to help your child reach their full potential. Considering a specialist performing arts school for your talented child? Here's what you need to know: Choose Wisely: Not all performing arts schools are the same. They specialize in different areas, from classical music to drama. Consider what suits your child's interests and goals. Competition: Be prepared for intense competition. Schools seek exceptional talent and potential, with rigorous audition processes and limited spots. Financial Assistance: Specialist schools are often fee-paying, with boarding options pushing fees higher. Some offer scholarships or bursaries, and government subsidies may be available for select schools. Choir Schools: For young musical talents, consider choristerships at cathedral choir schools, offering a prep school education with scholarships. Mainstream Schools: Don't overlook mainstream schools. Many offer excellent arts programs, both independent and state-funded, despite funding challenges. When choosing the right path for your child's artistic journey, explore all options and consider what aligns best with their aspirations and needs. #akademos #smartschoolselection #parents #artschool #ukeducation #londonschools #performingartschool #talents

Community Builder. Regional Director (West) at NCEE. We partner with education systems at all levels to design systems that leverage the NOW to prepare ALL learners for the future. Let's collaborate!
I've been thinking about....the paradigm shift to #authentic learning experiences. Now, hear me out. I call out the #paradigmshift because providing authentic learning experiences for our young people is SO much more than mimicking real-world experiences. It's about building #relationships among the adults in a #school, #district, and #community that result in enlightened collaboration that INCLUDES how we can work together to create actual experiences for young people that impact the world around them. Left alone, teachers, at best, can create versions of real-life experiences. And, in some cases, teachers are pulling together what's needed to create these opportunities for our young people but..honestly...they shouldn't be left alone to shoulder the effort. If we empower teachers by providing the structures, processes, and incentives needed for deep collaboration across a community....well, just imagine what they can do? One simple example is shared here by Jayden Balbuena Valles - a new colleague I met via collaboration here on #linkedin. Jayden is a part of a film maker team in Santa Ana Unified School District who, as a result of the intentional collaboration of a lot of adults AND the determination of young people, is creating real-world products for real-world clients. Imagine the impact on #motivation when young people come to school to learn in this way. Imagine the impact on #chronicabsenteesism when THESE are the types of experiences awaiting our young people. Imagine how much more possible this type of design can be when every single one of us sees ourselves as a part of making it happen (aka this is NOT a "teachers should...." type of shift). Feeling brave? Share an idea below about how YOU (yeah, not "they" or "them") can become involved in making authentic learning happen in your community schools. There. I said it. #itatakesallofus #communitymatters Dawn S. Reese, CFRE Tim Hanner Jerry Almendarez Dr. Lorraine Mora Perez Eric Timmons Cory Strasser Andy Johnsen, Ed.D. What an enormous privilege to present at the Awards Ceremony of my former high school as the Keynote Speaker. It was exhilarating to see the academic and musical talent of the young people. What would I say to my 17-year-old self if I could travel back 30 years? Here are seven points I felt Scottish high school students might want to consider: 1. When you leave high school, you have a clean slate 2. It’s okay to change your mind 3. You will experience failures. It’s okay to fail 4. Don’t compare yourself to others 5. Embrace imposter syndrome 6. Find a mentor: “When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready, the teacher will disappear.” 7. Be authentic. #ForresterHighSchool

We hope you will enjoy the trailers for this thoughtful film called "The Ride Ahead." From the movie website, "Samuel Habib is a typical 21-year-old, itching to move out, start a career and find love. But no one tells you how to be an adult, let alone an adult with a disability. Can a community of disability activists help him follow his dreams?" Learn more about this film at https://lnkd.in/d-bwFeZw.

Assistant Professor & Head of Musical Theatre & Theatre | Theatre Director | Performance Pedagogue | Equitable Arts Advocate
Just finished my first year as a full time faculty member and the Director of a #musicaltheatre and #theatre program. Here are my end of the year thoughts 💡 🔸Our choices should always be student centered. 🔸Hold true to your boundaries. 🔸Teaching somehow ends up at the bottom of the priority list (amongst admin duties). 🔸Students want and need structure. 🔸Expectations should always be made clear from the start. 🔸You won’t be friends with everyone. 🔸Culture shock is a real thing. 🔸It’s okay to be frustrated. 🔸Have a solution based mentality. 🔸Change takes time. 🔸Hidden curriculum is real. 🔸Pedagogy should be a requirement for all teachers/professors. 🔸Teaching doesn’t mean talking. 🔸Just because it’s “how you’ve always done it,” doesn’t mean there isn’t a better or more efficient way. 🔸A supportive Dean makes all the difference. 🔸Curriculum needs to and should be re-evaluated. 🔸Ask for help/advice from people you trust. 🔸Stay active and up to date within your industry. 🔸I’m grateful to have a job! What would your advice be from a #universityprofessor or in #highereducation ❓

Bad Golfer │ Good Trumpet Player │ Advisor to Professional Services, Real Estate Developers and Non Profit Organizations
"The activity is a study in passion — or perhaps delusion. It is not easy. It does not make money. It does not clearly translate to a career." The NY Times posted this article yesterday about drum corps. The activity just wrapped up the 2024 season a few weeks ago at Lucas Oil Stadium. I marched in Carolina Crown in 2005. I am not a music educator. I am not a professional trumpet player. Being in drum corps did not teach me about debits and credits, audit risk assessments, or tax strategies. It taught me something far more valuable. How to be resilient. What it means to practice to pursue perfection. The power of a team working toward a shared goal. If you can hire someone who marched in a world class drum corps you are getting a hard working, coachable team member. Read the article for details on what a summer looks like. https://lnkd.in/dTxAEJWp A. S. Gallo: 5 Lyric Pieces for Youth Band, Op. 8 N. 5 - March These 5 Lyric Pieces are a collection of little and easy original pieces, especially suitable for youth bands (the degree of difficulty is 2 - 2.5). The musical language is tonal, melodious and discursive. Throughout the pieces, different metric indications (2/4, 3/4, 6/8, 4/4) and different keys (F major, G minor, Eb major, C minor, Bb major) alternate, in order to encourage the musical growth of young instrumentalists with a wide metric and harmonic variety, always maintaining constant technical simplicity. Replacements are frequently used, to allow the performance even to incomplete or poorly balanced instrumental groups. The total duration of the pieces is included in ten minutes about. This work is published by Edizioni Mulph (Nepi, VT, Italy): Complete Score and Parts (paper or digital format): https://lnkd.in/dE2xrKFz Other works by Alberto Secondo Gallo: https://lnkd.in/dRpsGMqE Collana Lorenzo Della Fonte: https://lnkd.in/d7diF-mQ Edizioni Mulph: https://mulph.it
