For me, the author of this Facebook post (Karl Mecklenburg) is a local and national NFL legend, who played for my beloved Denver Broncos. I find this particularly relevant in the space I work in... [Karl Mecklenburg] I played football with men from all different backgrounds, races, religions, moralities, and outlooks on life. Our culture was a culture of mutual respect. If you could be relied on to help the Broncos win football games, you were respected. There were no other requirements, and because of this solid team culture, we only had two losing seasons in my 12 years with the team. I recently shared a story about a conservative politician and a liberal musician working together to benefit people. Examples of progress engineered and negotiated by people with different viewpoints are inspiring to me, as well as for many of you. Of course, there were a few comments attacking one side or the other, but that’s what’s inspiring about collaboration. To set aside your differences and focus on the task at hand is a difficult and worthwhile accomplishment. Moving forward with a specific project does not require the full endorsement of the worldview or past actions of someone who can help you make the project a reality. Great teams aren’t made up of clones and yes men. Great teams have people with differing viewpoints who learn from each other and share a common goal. bit.ly/3K1hoSz #Leadership #Teamwork #Success #Respect #Culture #Growth

Opportunities can be created! My son and I LOVE going to Flint Firebirds (OHL) hockey games. For years we have been trying to win this drawing to join the team for pre-game warm-ups. It's a contest and we haven't been successful. it happens, no biggie. It's all in good fun. Not to be deterred my son decided to create his own pre-game experience during warm-ups which includes watching the team, cheering, waving and dancing right by the glass. Not only does he love it but he's been given several pucks by players on the team. The takeaway: sometimes in life we need to reinterpret an endeavor and redefine what it is and how we can interact with it. By doing so we can often create opportunities for ourselves and havd much more satisfying experiences #leadership #motivation #humanresources

In our society, which has often celebrated rugged individualism and made heroes out of athletes and CEOs, the introduction of the concept of 'teammateship' is an essential step in rebalancing our societal values. Leadership is undoubtedly valuable, but we must equally recognize the importance of #teammateship. Some of us step up to be leaders, whether we hold a formal position or not, but every one of us must embrace the role of a teammate every moment of every day, whether we prefer it or not. Leadership entails its own set of sacrifices, but with teammateship, you don't have the luxury of choice; you simply must be a teammate. Teaching people the value of teammateship may be as, if not more, important than teaching leadership. Really inspiring piece, well done and thank you Simon Sinek and Shane Battier !

High-performing teams require more than just a leader. Great teams come from great teammates. Shane Battier won't be in the NBA Hall of Fame, but he was one of the greatest teammates to ever play professional basketball. He won back-to-back NBA Championships with the Miami Heat and was named the league's Teammate of the Year during their second championship run. His insights into trust, discomfort, and "teammateship" are essential for teams—and teammates—of all types. Listen to our full conversation on A Bit of Optimism: https://lnkd.in/dYh3jdRZ

Simon Sinek: Pre-emptive Chaos in a way can help improvise but doesn't it call for unintended Panic in to the system? 1. How it is best for collective/team goal? 2. Pre-emptive Chaos also calls for some assumptions. 3. Is chaos required in successful outcome? Just a thought :)

This is so so true the strength is the group and the abilities they bring. Diversity is key and we as leaders should welcome the chaos and direct it appropriately
