This weekend, take this final opportunity at OMCA to explore the legacy of Malaquías Montoya and other artists who dare speak truth to power for the empowerment of all! Por el Pueblo recognizes Montoya’s contributions as a founder and leader of the Chicano Arts Movement of the 60’s and 70’s when printmaking was emerging as an accessible and efficient method for activist artists. Known best for his silkscreen print posters, his work laden with social justice themes is contextualized with contemporary artists who are uplifting marginalized queer and Chicana voices and perspectives. Por el Pueblo: The Legacy and Influence of Malaquías Montoya closes June 30, 2024. https://lnkd.in/g5GuuTSi #PorElPueblo #MalaquiasMontoya

A Thousand Channels – a queer (*) mapping 🌎 platform 🎁 “The diverse social and political activities of queer people are mostly fleeting, temporary and not a natural part of the public image of a city. With A 1000 channels, we are developing a platform that offers queer actors, groups and projects a way to report on these spaces and events and make them visible.” (*) = “Pride flag variant based on Daniel Quasar's 2018 design combining elements of the Philadelphia flag and the trans pride flag, and brown and black” (that is what you get when you +c and +v the emoji from the article) https://lnkd.in/eHd6JB6p

Today is International Non-Binary People's Day, so, to contribute to the occasion of raising awareness, I am releasing my dissertation detailing the various negative stereotypes attributed to genderqueer characters in film and television. I had been working on this dissertation for my Media and Communications BA(Hons) degree since September 2023, and submitted it in May 2024. Both of my lecturers who had guided me through the process, Rosey Whorlow and Dr Adam Locks, were very confident with my ability and impressed with the final result. The essay recieved a mark of 80, securing what I expect to now guarantee a first class honours. Furthermore, their comments about it, stating how they rarely award 80s, how this is one of the best pieces of work they had read in their time teaching, and how it educated them on an in-depth discussing about queer representation was definitely rewarding to hear. I have created both a video and PDF Text version, which will take about an hour to read or watch. It is split into 3 key chapters of about 20 minutes each, and 13 parts of about 5 minutes each, as to not make it feel daunting and constricting. Alternatively, download or save to a watch list, as I am sure many have plans this everning already. I hope you enjoy and also I hope you can learn some interesting things about this important topic in modern society. Video Version: https://lnkd.in/ekRWtzWH Text Version: https://lnkd.in/eCA9uvYV

🌟 Reflecting on Juneteenth: Celebrating Freedom and Progress 🌟 Although Juneteenth has passed, its significance and the lessons it teaches remain ever-present. As we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, we are reminded of the resilience, strength, and perseverance of those who fought for freedom and justice. For many, including myself as a proud member of the minority community, Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone but a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward equality and inclusivity. It is a day to honor the past, celebrate our progress, and renew our commitment to a more just and equitable future. Let us continue to: Educate ourselves and others about the history and importance of Juneteenth. Celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black individuals and communities. Advocate for policies and practices that promote racial equity and social justice. Reflect on how we can contribute to creating a more inclusive world in our personal and professional lives. Together, we can build on the legacy of Juneteenth and ensure that the principles of freedom and equality are upheld for all. 🔗 #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality #SocialJustice #Inclusion #Diversity

Global Neurodiversity Speaker |Neurodiversity & Wellbeing Consultant | Design and Deliver CPD Training | Coach | Children's Book Author.
One powerful quote about the value of diversity and diverse thinking comes from Audre Lorde, an American writer, feminist, womanist, librarian, and civil rights activist. She said: “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognise, accept, and celebrate those differences." This quote emphasises the importance of embracing diversity rather than letting it separate us, highlighting that our strength lies in our varied perspectives and experiences. #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusiveLeadership #NeurodiversityAtWork #ChangeMakers
