One of the biggest challenges that sales managers have to face is that there are significant generational changes in hiring and recruiting. One of my biggest recommendations to graduating seniors is to try sales before going into an operations role… you’ll make more if you are good at it. Of course sales isn’t for everyone, but definitely try it if you think you have a shot. Here is an example: Global Supply Chain planner as a top earner at Johnson & Johnson makes $95k according to Zip Recruiter Base salary on average for Johnson & johnson sales reps is $97.5k according to Zip Recruiter. Top earner according to glass door is $178k.

I speak with plenty of nascent FMCG businesses, and one thing I often hear is a desire to make their hiring process for sales reps better. It's tough: ruffle feathers and you could create a toxic image of your brand in a potential superfan's head, or spend too long deliberating and be left gauping at the opportunity cost from not getting into the trade before peak season kicks off.
