🏊♂️🚴♂️🏃♂️ The drama at the Ironman World Championship this weekend took an unexpected turn, highlighting the crucial role of clear rules and fair play in sports. This weekend's highlight was supposed to be the stunning performances by Antonio Benito Lopez and Kat Matthews at the Ironman event in Vitoria-Gasteiz. However, all eyes quickly turned towards Sam Laidlow, who faced disqualification in a twist that shocks and educates in equal measure. In the world of competitive sports, every second and every move counts, not just for the athletes but for the integrity of the sport. Laidlow's disqualification serves as a potent reminder of this reality, underscoring the need for clarity in rules and the importance of adhering to them. I witnessed a similar situation in a local marathon where a favored runner was disqualified for a minor infraction. It sparked a significant discussion on fairness and regulation in sports, much like the situation with Laidlow. What are your thoughts on enforcing these stringent rules in sports? Have you experienced or observed situations where a technicality affected the outcome of a competition? 👀💬 Share your stories and thoughts below! #IronmanWorldChampionship #Sportsmanship #RulesAndRegulations #FairPlay #Triathlon #AthleteLife #EnduranceSports Discover more tips, insights, and resources by visiting our site at https://lnkd.in/g8mwAfyq

🥇 Jasmine Paris became the first woman to complete one of the world's toughest races this weekend, The Barkley Marathon. 😤 Only 20 people have ever finished it, since it was extended to 100 miles in 1989. Mostly the news every year is, no one completed it. It is a race of legend in running circles. 💡What does this mean for us, on a day to day? 🏔 Whatever mountain you're climbing, whatever challenge you have in front of you, on the other side of hard, is where you find growth. 📈 On a performance curve, that doesn't mean having to push ourselves to strain every day. But moving out of your comfort zone, to stretch, that is where magic can happen for you. ⬆ It will also grow your comfort zone, so you can keep climbing new mountains. #peakperformance #stretchyourself https://lnkd.in/e_HdXrpU

Only 20 people have ever made it to the end of the #BarkleyMarathon since it was extended to 100 miles in 1986, this year Jasmin Paris was the first woman in history to finish it. But what makes this race special? How to enter is shrouded in mystery, as there is no website or social media for the event. All that is known is that to enter a runner must - write a motivational letter to Lazarus (founder and inventor of the race) ✍️ - if you are selected among the 40 participants you have to pay $1.60 💰 - if you are a first time participant you have to bring a number plate from your home country 🚗 - if you are a veteran you must bring a packet of cigarettes as a gift 🚬 The race consists of a 160 km route divided into 5 laps and 18,000 metres of elevation gain, to be completed in 60 hours. ⏱️ No mobile phones or GPS equipment may be used, only a map and a digital watch. To prove the completion of each lap, the runner must tear out a page from each book scattered at various points along the route. It is extremely motivating and inspiring to see these examples of success, of how much people want to test themselves and take risks, especially in a sporting enviroment where it is increasingly difficult to emerge as a professional, especially in sports that struggle to find the space they deserve in the media and beyond. Jasmin's goal, reached 39 seconds before the cut-off time, makes us reflect on how 'no one has ever done it before' with the right approach and preparation can turn into a success story, opening the door to others, who probably would never have existed without this feat. #sportmaketheworldbetter

🏊🚴♂️🏃 Victory for Fair Play: Claims Against My Clients Dismissed! 🏊🚴♂️🏃 I am thrilled to share a significant legal victory for my clients, Austrian triathletes Noah Künz and his coach Simon Künz. The World Triathlon Tribunal has dismissed all claims brought against them by the Egyptian Triathlon Federation (ETF) and World Triathlon (TRI). Key Highlights: 1. Insufficient Evidence: The Tribunal found that there was insufficient evidence to support allegations of race manipulation and improper influence. The core allegations were not convincingly proven. 2. Fair Play Upheld: The decision emphasized the importance of concrete, robust evidence when alleging serious violations. The Tribunal highlighted that no race official intervened during the alleged conduct, suggesting it was not perceived as manipulation during the race. 3. Credible Explanations: Noah Künz provided a credible explanation for his actions during the race, which the Tribunal found consistent and believable. 4. Field of Play Doctrine: The Tribunal upheld the principle that decisions made by race officials during the event are typically final, reaffirming the integrity of on-field decisions. 5. Costs Awarded (!): ETF and TRI have been ordered to cover the legal costs incurred by our clients, underscoring the Tribunal’s recognition of the legitimacy of their defense. After an extensive eight-hour hearing, I am pleased with the Tribunal’s neutral and impartial handling of the case, ensuring a fair outcome for all parties involved. However, I am flabbergasted that this claim was brought in the first place. This decision reaffirms the commitment to fair play and the importance of substantiated claims in competitive sports. I stand proud of my clients’ integrity and their dedication to the sport of triathlon. Thank you to my fellow colleague Koomaren Ramasamy who defended his client successfully in the same proceeding! I will continue to uphold the principles of fairness and justice in sports. #Triathlon #FairPlay #LegalVictory #SportsIntegrity #Sportslawyer

Our CEO, Philipp Lehner, recently participated at this year's versusfestival in the skiing resort in Montafon, Austria. 😎 The idea behind the festival is that two parties discuss about contrasting topics. Philipp was confronted with the statement that "The economy has to degrow for sustainability". Watch the video to get his thoughts on that claim. 👀 #FamilyOfPioneers #Sustainability #Packaging #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy #Discussion #VersusFestival

This one's a bit of a stretch. The Paris Olympics brings us Race Walking this morning. An event that requires people to race against eachother in a way that is not the fastest or most effective way: A 10k Race Walk takes roughly 12 minutes longer than running it. Same with Swimming. It's just slower to do Butterfly, Backstroke or Breaststroke. So what's the point? Well, it's a question of #culture. Race Walking is what the people who do it love. They like to race that way so they've developed the very best way of doing it that way. "It's the way things are done around there." There may be more efficient or faster ways to do it but the cultural landscape dictates a certain way of doing things. At Take Your Marks Consulting we are sensitive to the prevailing culture. Most Race Walkers have spent decades becoming unbelievable Race Walkers. It can be catastrophic if we try to make them runners. enquiries@takeyourmarks.co.uk

Currently sat on the stationary trainer 🚴 watching the Armagh International 5K. Apart from it’s not, is it? The men’s race is 5K, whilst the women’s is a 3K (a quick look at previous results suggests it’s always been this way). Yesterday was International Women in Sport day & I can’t help but think it leaves a bitter taste for the women’s international race to be almost half the distance of the men’s international race. For context, Armagh5k is one of the world’s most revered running road races, with some of Europe’s best runners descending on this small Northern Irish town every February. Credit where credit is due to the organisers for keeping this event running during trying times & also running a livestream. I appreciate that the reality of running events is far more difficult than it appears on paper. 👏 Perhaps there is good reason for the women’s event being 3K (selection criteria for a championship event, perhaps?), in which case I apologise for calling this out; but I can’t see one personally. It’d be great to see the women’s race be run over the billed 5K in 2025. Why not make it the main event on alternate years by running the men’s race first next year, too? 👀 Be interesting to hear my network’s thoughts on this!👇 #equality #womeninsport #armagh5k #athletics
