What does success look like in the Special Projects Group of KPFF Consulting Engineers? I wanted to do a series and highlight some of our amazing engineers in our office. I have asked them a few questions, and I hope you enjoy the responses! KPFF Special Projects Trailblazers: Success in Engineering Rachel Dorr started with KPFF as an intern in the Seattle office of the Special Projects Group in 2019. She graduated from Gonzaga University in the spring of 2020 and started working full time for KPFF in July of 2020. What does Success look like for you in the Special Projects Group? Success in the Special Projects Group looks like honing my individual skills, strengths, and passions to contribute to both the cohesiveness and diversity of my team as well as the quality of work we produce for our clients. We all bring something unique to the table – and what makes KPFF thrive is its employees’ ability to integrate those diverse skills into a common goal of producing quality work with good people What does success look like for a female engineer? As a female engineer, success looks like: - working collaboratively with my team and engineers from different disciplines - using my voice to problem solve, ask questions, and participate in meetings - building relationships and technical knowledge that will create necessary foundations for personal and professional development What advice do you have for future female engineers: Reflect on and step into your personal power – whatever it is that drives your passions, sparks your curiosity, or pushes you toward success – and own it. This is not to say there won’t be moments in your career when you don’t have all the answers or certainties. My idea of what being an engineer looks like has constantly changed throughout the course of my career. Because of this, I think it is important to continuously reflect on why and how we, both as women and as engineers, choose this line of work in service to people and our planet. When we understand the roots of our passions, we are more easily able to grow, adapt, and flourish in both our personal and professional pursuits. #societyofwomenengineers #womenengineers #rolemodels

Yesterday was an exciting first day at Growing at #Haleon week! The opening session, led by Geoff Painter and Jason Bates, was centered around the theme 'Think Consumer First, Always'—a crucial mindset for building a winning career. Key takeaways included the importance of understanding that nothing remains static, especially in today's fast-changing landscape. Now, more than ever, we're diving deeper into consumer insights, desires, and the challenges they face. By focusing on these evolving needs, we can better serve our consumers in the long term. Context matters, too—when and how our consumers use our products makes a big difference. This session highlighted how crucial it is to adapt with agility and embrace change as we continue to grow. #GrowingAtHaleon #ThinkConsumerFirst #ConsumerInsights

Luck – Did you hear that; we have a winner! What does this strange word mean to you? You toil at your job and your co-worker gets the promotion; is this fair, why are they lucky? Can luck be earned or found? Consider for a moment, what this “luck” is constructed of? Does your work pass muster regarding critical acclaim, are you in early and staying late, do you try to improve with every project? These are but a few of the components of luck. Rating your output and your co-workers, who’s is better or more reliable? Some speak of winning a lottery rather than excelling at a task; both can be considered “luck,” but if accolades are what you’re chasing, then you need to make your projects shine. Your attitude, skill and diligence will bring the gold!

Manufacturing & Industrial Marketing | Using Video Marketing, Website Design, Development, Optimization, & eLearning/Courses to increase revenue and decrease time/expenses. Serving Dayton Ohio & beyond.
I had a great conversation with WILL HEALY III from AMIP Cincy while at CBT Company's #MoreThanMFG expo. Will is a tremendous resource in helping manufacturers get funding, training, and countless other resources. He talks about #MakeItCincy and how they're helping manufacturers. You might want to watch this multiple times to catch all the helpful info that Will provides. Here are three key takeaways from my chat with Will: 🔑 Evangelizing Manufacturing Careers: Will shared the importance of Make It Cincy’s mission to attract people to the manufacturing sector. They use social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to showcase the variety of careers in manufacturing and demystify the industry to the general public. So many manufacturers don't put enough emphasis on social media as they should. 👷♀️ Training and Placement Programs: We talked about their boot camps funded by the Good Jobs Challenge Grant. These camps equip individuals with essential manufacturing skills such as shop math, safety protocols, and process understanding. Will stressed how these programs are directly linked to job placements in frontline worker positions within the Cincinnati manufacturing community. 💵 Navigating Funding Opportunities: Will also shared valuable insights into some of the many funding opportunities available for manufacturers in southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky, and southeast Indiana. From training grants to loans for equipment upgrades, Make It Cincy actively connects manufacturers with financial resources, simplifying what can often be a complex process. #MakeItCincy #Manufacturing #ManufacturingCareers #FundingOpportunities #IndustrialGrowth #FutureofWork

Meet the crew! Nathan “Blondie” Rachel: So, your nickname is Blondie? How did you get that nickname? Nate: I had just bleached my hair and on my first day out here, and Bobby told somebody to take that blonde boy to go do something. Blondie was just easier and shorter, so it stuck. Rachel: How old were you when you got into this field of work? Nate: 19. Rachel: How are you now? Nate: Almost 21. Rachel: Where did you come from? Nate: West Virginia. Rachel: How do you like Virginia? Nate: It’s a lot better, a lot more work, a lot more money. Rachel: Who got you into this field? Nate: My cousin, he thought it would be good for me to get into. Rachel: What did you use to do in the past for work? Nate: Really never did much but I did work at Hardy's for like two weeks lol that’s about it really. Rachel: What was it like at first getting into this industry? Nate: It was a little awkward at first, but after awhile after you adjust. It’s pretty good. Rachel: What’s your favorite thing to do out in the field? Nate: Probably cutting with a torch and demolition. Rachel: It’s always fun to demo stuff and get paid for huh lol. Nate: Yeah. Rachel: What’s one of the coolest things you’ve learned out here? Nate: I enjoy operating the forklift, and the crane work. Rachel: What are some of your goals as being an Ironworker? Nate: To become a journeyman and travel some. Learn a lot more. I'd like to learn how to weld in all positions and get my certs. Rachel: Are you thinking about going into the apprenticeship program? Nate: Yeah, I am. Rachel: What is one of the places you would love to travel and work? Nate: California. Rachel: Why California? Nate: There is just something about California and me, and I don’t know what it is. I’m just drawn to it. Rachel: What’s it like being one of the youngest out here? Nate: It definitely has its pros and cons. Rachel: Tell me about some of them. Nate: I’m the youngest so everyone kind of takes me under their wing, also cause I’m the youngest they are a little harder on me, just to get it through my head, I guess. They know I’m young and bullheaded lol. Rachel: So, tell me what it is like to work at the coal pier? Nate: Dirty! its very dirty but its very laid back and it's not as bad as people may think. Overall, it’s not a bad gig. Good hours 44 a week, more than what most people get, sometimes even more than that. Rachel: So, tell me a little bit about yourself? Nate: I like to play video games, sleep, and I like to eat lol. Rachel: What’s your favorite type of food? Nate: Mm that’s a hard one … I’d have to say homemade spaghetti. Rachel: Well Nate thank you for sitting down with me and letting us get to know you a little bit. Nate: It was no problem.
