Safety of immunotherapy in patients with transplants remains an unanswered question. Given the life-altering consequences of a transplant, both medically and financially - a renal transplant is much less expensive than lifelong intermittent dialysis, for example - every effort should be made to preserve these precious organs. We may have gained our first inkling to the safety of immunotherapy in a very small selection of renal transplant patients. Read on to find out more in this week's Newsreel: https://lnkd.in/dUswPmzG

Today is World Kidney Day and this year’s theme is “advancing equitable access to care and optimal medication practice,” which focuses on not only improving equitable access to appropriate treatment and care for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (#CKD), but also ensuring access to optimal medications globally. CKD is estimated to affect more than 850 million people globally and, if left unaddressed, is projected to be the 5th leading cause of years of life lost by 2040. In the past, CKD treatment efforts have centered on preparing for and delivery of renal replacement therapy in the form of transplantation and dialysis. However, recent therapeutic breakthroughs offer unprecedented opportunities to prevent or delay kidney disease, prolonging quality and quantity of life for those living with CKD. At ProKidney, we are dedicated to driving forward a new era in the treatment of CKD through the development of a pioneering cell therapy candidate, rilparencel, with the potential to preserve kidney function. We are proud to support World Kidney Day in their mission and will continue to work towards supporting continued innovation in the CKD treatment landscape. More reasons for #CARTcell #optimism in #AutoimmuneDisease. Consider this from the #NEJM. 15 patients, 3 different conditions (SLE, IIM, SSc), and 1 single CD19 CAR-T infusion each = 15 remissions and no need for immunosuppressive therapy. Wow. #Tcells #CellTherapy #celltherapymanufacturing #apheresis

On May 17, 2024, CMS issued a proposed mandatory model, the Increasing Organ Transplant Access (IOTA) Model, which aims to increase lifesaving transplants for patients living with kidney disease and reduce medicare expenditures. Our cost-free Conversation Series Program on June 11, 2024 will provide a high-level overview of key provisions in the IOTA model, review basics of the payment policies, and outline actions transplant centers should utilize to evaluate potential impact to their own organizations. Register at no cost below.

Evolving strategies for patients with MRD+ B-ALL. Patients with CD19+ and/or CD22+ B-ALL in CR and MRD+ (CR MRD+) can be offered Blina (lower curve7) or InO (upper curve1), resulting in MRD negativity in 70% of the patients and RFS of 50%. Whether allo-SCT may be offered as intensification in responding patients remains a matter of debate

Patient Advocacy Transplant Lead at Sanofi | Health Equity Innovator | Public Health Champion | Pharmacist | Outcomes Researcher
Everyone who needs a kidney should get one and everyone who receives a transplant deserves to live a quality life after. Unfortunately, for decades our healthcare system has underperformed in kidney transplantation. Dialysis is NOT a cure and while a kidney transplant offers a 2nd chance at life, some patients are struggling with devastating complications of toxic immunosuppressive agents required to maintain their new organ. More innovation is needed to improve long-term quality of life and patient outcomes post-transplant. Additionally, more support is needed for living donors before and after donation. Thank you to the American Society of Nephrology - Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) for bringing together industry leaders, providers, policy makers and administrators, advocates, patients and caregivers for the Kidney Innovation Conference in Washington, DC this week. For the last 10 years, KHI in collaboration with over 70 member organizations, including Sanofi, has led the way in catalyzing innovation and the development of safe and effective patient-centered therapies for people with kidney diseases. Although there are many hurdles ahead, the future of innovation in kidney transplantation is bright with a community of collaborators dedicated to making impactful change!
