The rising problems of violence in the workplace has caught the attention of national healthcare policymakers. In 2022, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released a memorandum requiring Medicare-certified institutions to provide training to protect their workforce and patients from workplace violence. Respectfully, this usually translates into yet another online course staff have to take, which they click through at lightning speed because they have taken it a hundred times. Instead, we need mandatory reporting of incidents of violence so employers don't gaslight staff into not reporting. Then follow it up with mandatory punishments for the violence.
