60 percent! I don’t know the sample size or specifics of how the research was conducted or how they arrived at this number but the moral of the story is don’t underestimate our skill set within the social work discipline, it is one of the most unique and marketable because it allows for social workers to practice in so many different areas! Specifically as it pertains to clinical mental health, put some respect on the social work name! #MarchisNationalSocialWorkMonth

As we recognize National Minority Mental Health Awareness this month, it's crucial to shine a light on the unique challenges faced by minority communities. 📊 Did you know? *1 in 3 Black adults who need mental health care do not receive it. *Black Americans are 20% more likely to experience mental health problems, such as major depressive disorder or generalized anxiety disorder. *In Indiana, the rate of mental health issues in minority communities is 30% higher than the state average, yet access to care remains limited. *Hispanic adults are less likely to receive mental health care, with only 35% seeking treatment. In Indiana, 40% receive the necessary treatment. At CFSOC, we are dedicated to bridging the gap! We provide essential direction and support for mental health, child abuse prevention, and addiction recovery within minority communities. Together, we can create a future where everyone has the courage to seek help and thrive. 🤝 Join us in raising awareness and let's break the stigma surrounding mental health in our communities! #MinorityMentalHealth #SupportAndThrive #stopthestigma #minoritycommunities #mentalhealthawareness #cfsoc #systemofcare #communitypartners #solutionfocused #traumainformed #clientdirected #blackmentalhealth #hispanicmentalhealth #mentalhealthishealth #healthandwellness #youthguided #southernindiana

Challenging the Dominant Narrative in Recovery As a social work student and peer recovery support specialist, I've seen firsthand how the dominant 12-step culture can do more harm than good for many people struggling with addiction and mental health issues. It's time we stop excusing this reality and start having honest conversations about the need for more inclusive, compassionate, and evidence-based approaches to recovery. The truth is, the 12-step model doesn't work for everyone. Its rigid, one-size-fits-all philosophy can alienate and re-traumatize those who don't fit the mold. We need to accept that this modality helps fewer people than it harms, and stop using the fact that "it has helped" as a justification. As someone in long-term recovery myself, I'm passionate about advocating for a diversity of pathways to wellness. That's why I started the "Shot Out After Dark" Facebook group - a safe, judgment-free space that celebrates multiple roads to recovery. It's time to challenge the status quo and uplift marginalized voices in the addiction treatment and mental health communities. If you're with me, let's work together to create a more inclusive, compassionate future for all. #RecoveryMatters #MentalHealthAdvocacy #SocialJustice
