My latest piece for Pharma-Sources Drug delivery is about improving the efficacy and safety of therapeutics by getting the right dose of the right drug to the right place at the right rate and time. Approaches to drug delivery have existed for many hundreds of years; Egyptian physicians created oral tablets and ointments, and physicians began to use intravenous delivery after the circulatory system was first described in 1657. Controlled release technologies date back to the mid-1900s. MEMS are small, integrated devices that combine electrical and mechanical components, and have been made possible by the advances in microfluidics and electronics miniaturisation. MEMS devices can be implantable or wearable, and have applications in chronic and long-term disease. They can deliver drugs to specific locations, and some can deliver more than one drug. Those with integrated sensors can tailor delivery rates to the patient's needs based on detection of vital signs or biomarkers. https://lnkd.in/ePjZz6qW

History in Making for the Medi-Tech Industry! Department of Pharmaceutical( DoP) under the visionary leadership of Secretary #DrArunishChawla undertook the mammoth exercise of organizing the #MediTech #Stackathon on May 8, 2024 in New Delhi in association with #CII. For the first time scientific segregation of the sector was done into 8 categories namely, #imagingdevices, #criticalcare, cancer therapy, assistive medical devices, body implants, surgical & hospital equipment, consumables & disposable and IVD diagnostics & reagents. The aim of the Stackathon was to bring competing companies from each segment to brainstorm and collectively map and analyse the #valuechain of specialized technology platforms, components, sub-components and raw materials and come up with recommendations that will propel the growth of innovation based value added local manufacturing. #WiproGEHealthcare had the privilege to lead the Imaging devices segment and participate actively in the critical care segment along with other MNC and domestic players. Going forward, DoP will be organising segment wise workshops to build on the Stackathon findings, bridge the gaps and strengthen the value chain analysis to decide on the production linked and research linked incentive schemes. The work done under #SCALE Committee under the aegis of #DPIIT & #FICCI under the chairmanship of Dr Pawan Goenka to identify the value chain for imaging, implants & surgical equipment and IVDs eased the exercise during the Stackathon.
