🌧💰 Reducing Storm Overflows: Severn Trent's £450M Region-Wide Investment 🌧💰 Severn Trent is making significant strides in its commitment to reducing storm overflows across the Midlands. With a massive £450 million investment, the company is set to deliver major improvements, ensuring a 20% annual reduction in spills. Warwickshire, in particular, is seeing substantial progress. 📉 👇 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 👇 💰 £169,000 Upgrade at Fenny Compton: Enhanced the wastewater treatment works with reed bed improvements and new pipework. 💧 New Storage Solutions in Atherstone: Increased capacity at Hurley Waste Treatment Works by 170,000 litres. 📅 Future Investments: £300 million earmarked for the next 25 years to improve 141 overflows by 2050. 📍 Midlands-Wide Projects: 900 locations benefiting this year alone. --------------------------------------------------- Mark Darby, Severn Trent’s Spills Programme Lead, emphasised the importance of these projects: “Our customers want us to go as quickly as possible to reduce spills from overflows, and we’re doing just that. Merry Christmas Eve to everyone out there! This week, I came across this article about a project 10-years in the making. From a flooding complaint, this project grew into a holistic urban stormwater solution. Combining stream bank restoration with numerous rain gardens, porous alleys and gutters, this project took on a life of its own. Through this intergovernmental cooperation they achieved not only a solution to the flooding problem but also were able to improve water quality and neighborhood conditions. #stormwatermanagement #civilengineer

Great news for Exmoor National Park! Over £450,000 is being invested in sewer revitalisation to protect this beautiful landscape straddling Somerset and Devon. Work is wrapping up to renovate the local sewer network to prevent pollution and flooding, using innovative 'no-dig' techniques for a quicker, less disruptive process. ✨ The upgraded pipes will ensure a reliable service and protected environment for years to come. We’re planning to invest nearly £450 million between 2025 and 2030 to improve storm overflows across the region and progressively eliminate the discharge of untreated sewage into rivers and the sea. Work has started to install a storm water storage tank in a Northumberland sewage treatment works to help to protect and improve water quality in the River North Tyne. We’re investing £2.5m in the upgrades at our site in Bellingham. The tank will hold storm water and wastewater from homes at times of heavy rainfall, ready to be treated when flows reduce, protecting against the risk of spills to the environment. Work is being carried out our partners, Esh Stantec. The project builds on other investment around the North Tyne, including a £3.5m project to triple capacity at Wark Sewage Treatment Works, which is close to completion. Ponds provide stormwater quality in a few different ways. First off it is important to understand that detention/retention and stormwater quality are two very separate features. The purpose of a detention pond is to mitigate downstream flooding. That’s it. This is accomplished via a restrictor. To qualify as a stormwater-quality pond, the design needs to include a screen as well as a restrictor, to prevent the release of trash and debris into the outfall. #stormwater #civilengineering #stormwaterprofessionalsgroup #texas
