As we slip and slide towards 2024 it brings into focus a major sporting event happening next summer… No, much more exciting than the Paris/France/Tahiti Olympics, it’s the World Orienteering Championships in Edinburgh next July! Earlier this year we partnered with Scottish Orienteering and British Orienteering to explore how WOC2024 (as those in-the-know call it) could be harnessed to increase awareness of and participation in orienteering across Scotland and the UK.  We worked alongside members of the UK orienteering community to explore how to do just that and this week’s #TestimonialTuesday comes from Scottish Orienteering President, Richard Oxlade. What did we recommend?? Well, over the years major event organisers have shown that achieving a boost in grassroots participation isn’t about fancy opening ceremonies and expensive tickets, it’s about investment and support at community level.  Money, resources, skills and recognition for the awesome people on the ground doing all they can to keep the sport ticking day-to-day. So we focused on listening to, learning from and channeling the passion of the orienteering community, equipping them with the knowledge and resources to attract new participants and be advocates for the sport they know and love. We also got stuck into a few orienteering events and can highly recommend it! Bring on WOC2024 to show how well this works. #WhatNext #StakeholderEngagement #Participation

From outbreaks of COVID-19, to complaints about poor sleeping and living conditions, to athletes TikToking their way through free medical care in France, this year’s games have highlighted the need for a true systems overhaul when it comes to living up to the Olympic charter and setting an example for better living and working standards around the world.🤔 Maybe it’s kismet that we’re seeing the cracks in our global sporting system emerge in Paris.✨ It’s a sign that we can learn from other international bodies, and specifically the climate advocates who charted new terrain there less than ten years ago.🤓 Maybe it’s also a sign that prior to Los Angeles, American leadership, now with torch in hand, must take the initiative and ignite the spark of change.🇺🇸 Check out my latest piece on enlightening lessons from the 33rd Olympiad, where we go from here, and how empowering athletes just might be the key to empowering us all.💯 #Paris2024 #Olympics #Sports #HealthGreatestWealth https://lnkd.in/egdBBzgQ
