👩🏽🚀 Boeing’s Starliner astronauts should have been back on Earth 1 month ago. The aerospace giant’s continued failings on this manned launch are a sign that the #space industry needs more competition - and #startups are beginning to fill that void. In this latest video, our Founding Partner Semyon Dukach explores how space startups are accelerating innovation in the sector. He answers the question: which are the 3 areas of greatest potential for space startups vs. national space agencies? 📲 Telecommunications (e.g. consumer-grade satellite communications, such as Lynk) 🏗️ Infrastructure (e.g. refueling, navigation companies like Momentus) 🧪 Science services (e.g. labs on satellites - see Odyssey SpaceWorks) If you’d like to learn more, watch the video below and reach out!

#Startupinspo "Decades of innovation have made humanity very good at getting spacecraft and satellites into orbit, but companies are still working on an efficient return lane for cargo, which will enable the long-promised in-space manufacturing industry. One #startup leading that charge is Outpost, which is taking a fundamentally different approach to getting things home from orbit."👇 - #spacecargo #spacestartup #outpoststartup #newspace #spacecommercialisation #space4cargo #esa #esabic #esabicng

Strategic communications and messaging for top-tier organizations at the intersection of space, deep technology, and global security.
Loving this shout out from TechCrunch & Aria Alamalhodaei in the site's 2024 #space industry predictions: "In the broadest possible terms, a huge portion of space startups are interested in increasing the number of things a satellite can do in space. A good example is something called rendezvous and proximity operations (#RPO), which is when two spacecraft intentionally maneuver to dock or otherwise interact with each other. Another hot area of satellite operations involves in-space manufacturing and satellite reentry. Next year, we expect to see more demonstrations from startups looking to execute state-of-the-art satellite operations. Off the top of our head, a few that we’re looking forward to (though this is by no means an exhaustive list): True Anomaly, a defense-focused space startup, will be demonstrating RPO with two of its #Jackal satellites early next year." #MissionX

Loves building companies (2x), helping founders (24x7), playing chess (8x8) and investing to deliver 10x returns
Ten years and US$6 billion invested with some of the best and highest-paid tech minds, and yet delivered a faulty device! Originally slated as NASA's solution for transporting astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), Starliner has encountered issues, including US$1.5 billion in cost overruns beyond its initial US$4.5 billion contract. Selected alongside SpaceX in 2014 to end NASA's reliance on Russian transport, Boeing aimed to revolutionize space travel. SpaceX won the race by completing an uncrewed mission in 2019, a crewed test in 2020 and multiple crewed missions since then. After 10 years of building and testing by Boeing and multiple failed launches this year in May and early June, the Starliner finally took off in 5th Jun, 24. But everything did not go as planned. Thruster failures, helium leaks, more water usage for the cooling system and software problems were identified. But both NASA and Boeing believe that the crew will be able to return safely. In contrast, SpaceX has excelled under similar challenges, demonstrating agility and innovation in the aerospace industry. The contrast underscores the evolving landscape where startups are pioneering rapid advancements because of their agility and innovation. So when investors say Google, Meta, Amazon or in this case Boeing can replicate a business, I disagree. They cannot. Most probably two crazy founders building frugally, with a team of dreamers can surpass expectations and aim for the stars. The trajectory of this company is nothing short of astronomical! 🚀 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱: 2002 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Hawthorne, CA 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀: 12,000 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: $20.8B (2017) - $180B (Current Est.) 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 (Assuming 250 M shares) : $653.44 With such meteoric growth, SpaceX continues to redefine the aerospace industry. Led by the visionary founder and CEO Elon Musk (Tesla), SpaceX has achieved numerous milestones. First private company to orbit the Earth with a liquid-propellant rocket. Successfully launched, orbited, and recovered a spacecraft. Achieved vertical landing of an orbital rocket booster. Launched astronauts to the International Space Station. Its vision has been backed by Sequoia Capital (now Peak XV Partners), T. Rowe Price, and Founders Fund (by Peter Thiel). SpaceX's journey reflects the power of compounding in disruptive innovation. Their commitment to lowering space transportation costs has reshaped the industry, paving the way for ambitious ventures like potential Mars settlements. Their success has resulted in the rise of a number of SpaceTech companies around the globe ushering in a new era of privatization of SpaceFlight and Development. This success can be attributed to 3 major fundamentals 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Despite recent setbacks, SpaceX is dedicated to refining Starship's capabilities, with plans for rapid turnaround on launches and mastering reentry and landing procedures. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: With ambitions to deploy satellites and recover both stages of Starship, SpaceX aims to accelerate the pace of space missions while ensuring precision and reliability. 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration, SpaceX is committed to streamlining launch licensing processes, paving the way for more frequent and efficient launches while upholding safety standards. Even though it stands as a pre IPO company, it would be an understatement to say that SpaceX stands as an example of spectacular compounding. Not just compounding its own growth but also resulting in the growth of an entire category / industry. ~ Compounding With Umang Gupta #finance #spacex #elonmusk #spacetech #space #venturecapital #business #startup #science #innovation #investing

As a new space venture studio, one of our core studio engagements we love is Acceleration. We love working with founders in the new space category, because they’re pioneers like no other. There’s no written playbook for this new world where concept to mission operations can occur 100% in the commercial world. That’s where we step in. The Mandala team has had the fortune of spending the last few decades successfully sending spacecraft into the harshest space environments. We’ve also had the misfortune of experiencing all kinds of failures. But this helped us develop a playbook based on real experience. And we love bringing this ever evolving playbook to help growth-stage space founders accelerate their company in the Mandala Studio. #space #newspace #aerospace #innovation #technology #deeptech #stem #science #nasa #spacex #business #tech #startups
