Today is International Wheelchair Day, a day to reflect on the positive impact a wheelchair has on many lives. Wheelchairs help assist people with physical disabilities and mobility issues, but how as employers can we make sure our workplaces are fully accessible for wheelchairs? At iDiversity Consulting Ltd we’re passionate about fostering more inclusive work environments, here are two things that can help create accessibility for wheelchair users: ➡️ Carry out regular access reviews: Identify and address physical limitations within the workplace. ➡️ Use support services: Use services like ‘Access to Work’ and ‘Workplace Needs Adjustments’ to facilitate accessibility modifications. Last month, we identified 6,000 companies openly discussing employee initiatives that were promoting diversity and mental well-being. Companies this month include: Funding Circle - Its been promoting the work of its Circler Groups, which held 50 events last year around topics such as racial discrimination, gender identity and mental health.. England Golf - Its D&I Champion award nominations were announced, designed to recognise people and companies that create the most inclusive environment for golf and make it accessible to all. Torchbox - It announced what its Voice Groups will focus on in 2024, which includes more mental health training and workshops around diversity. It's also creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse communities. Booking.com - It introduced its Global Chair of B.able in a social post, which is its Employee Resource Group that supports colleagues with diverse physical and neurological needs. Delta Capita - It celebrated a year of impact which included championing DE&I and Sustainability, community outreach and uniting across continents for cultural celebrations Pret A Manger - Its Belonging Group for disability, neurodiversity and mental health organised an employee seminar focused on breaking down the barriers that disabled people face. This Honch List details every HR, Talent and DE&I decision-maker in the companies concerned, allowing simple targeting for clients focused on this space. #HonchHR

Intergenerational Week is a global event that occurs annually to celebrate inclusive intergenerational practices in the workplace. This year, it is taking place from the 24th of April until the 30th of April. Set up during the pandemic, Global Intergenerational Week is helping to bridge the gap between different generations in the hopes that generational stereotypes are reduced. In April, the ‘Flexible Working Act’ is being updated to encourage individuals over the age of 50 back into the workspace with schemes such as “returnships.” This will allow for diversity and inclusivity amongst generations in the workspace.
