Brutal Nature: Cheetah mom teaches her cub to hunt and kill A cheetah mom plays a vital role in teaching her cubs how to hunt and kill. Here's how it goes down: Start 'em Young: Around 6-8 months old, cheetah cubs begin accompanying their mother on hunts. This is a crucial time for them to learn the essential skills. Lessons by Example: The mother primarily teaches through observation. The cubs watch her stalk prey, reading her body language and hunting techniques. Practice Makes Perfect: Cheetah moms might even bring down injured prey or catch smaller animals for their cubs to practice pouncing, grappling, and the vital neck bite that suffocates the prey. These "practice kills" allow the cubs to develop their skills in a safe environment. Patience is Key: Learning to hunt is a long process that can take up to 18 months. The mother shows immense patience, allowing the cubs to make mistakes and learn from them. Not Always Pretty: The act of hunting and killing can be brutal to witness. But it's a necessary part of a cheetah's survival in the wild.
