The Importance of Vision, Consistency and Visibility in your Municipality Municipalities often face challenges with the delivery of efficient, cost-effective and sustainable services. In part, this can often be attributed to short-comings in their capital planning processes. Some of the typical symptoms of this conundrum are suboptimal resource allocation, delayed projects, and encumbered overall development. #CP3 #LocalGovernance #Development #Collaboration #Transparency #CommunityEngagement #DataDriven #SustainableDevelopment #Innovation #Accountability #Empowerment #Efficiency #RegionalPartnerships #LocalVoice #ProgressMonitoring #Budgeting #SystemSupport #CapacityBuilding #Partnerships #LocalisLekker #CEFs #Frameworks Read more https://lnkd.in/dB7m7-GW

Congress has not adequately funded the Public Housing Capital Fund for many years, leading to an approximate $70 billion backlog in capital needs for public housing nationwide. This includes critical maintenance and repairs for site systems, building architecture, mechanical and electrical systems, and in-unit updates. 🛠️ 🔍 Factors increasing capital needs per unit include: 🔹 Large PHAs: Agencies with more than 6,600 units face higher capital needs. 🔹 Family Developments: These types of properties typically require more resources. 🔹 Properties in the West: Western locations tend to have greater needs. 🔹 Row/Townhouse Properties: These property types often incur higher costs. 🏠 Key Cost Drivers: The primary cost drivers for capital needs are systems within units, including windows, kitchens, and bathrooms. 🪟🍽️🚿 👉 To learn more about public housing and its capital needs, check out PAHRC's 2022 report, "Beyond Public Housing: How Public Housing Authorities Are Transforming the Way They Preserve and Expand Their Housing Stock": https://lnkd.in/e-HChmzG #Research #Data #PublicHousing #CapitalNeeds #PAHRC #HAIGroup #AffordableHousing 📊🏘️

Building and Construction Minister Chris Penk has today announced a review into the risks of earthquake-prone buildings. Remediation deadlines for earthquake prone buildings will be extended for four years while the review is underway. These changes will require an amendment to the Building Act 2004 with the intention that this bill be passed before the end of 2024. The review will be extensive and report back in the first half of 2025 with a focus on: ➡️cost of mitigating earthquake risk and improving buildings’ resilience ➡️proposals for managing earthquake risk with effect on private property owners ➡️barriers and the types of incentives that would help building owners better manage seismic risk ➡️changes that align with broader Government objectives, such as going for housing growth and rebuilding the economy

Interesting article here. It is clear (and has been for some time) that the requirement for a five-yearly review of local plans lacks the necessary 'teeth' to ensure that local authorities will undertake a review and then produce an update in a timely fashion if necessary. This process is not subject to consultation or examination, and therefore the decision of the local authority as to whether or not an update is required cannot be challenged. I do believe that this needs to be addressed by the Government as part of emerging reforms to the local plan making system being introduced by the Levelling-Up and Regeneration Act. However, the article does not mention that the PAS Local Plan Route Mapper https://lnkd.in/eFNUk5ih is freely available to local authorities to use and provides helpful guidance when undertaking a review and / or update of a Local Plan. #localplan #planning #levellingup https://lnkd.in/efxdtAxb

2moI'm really interested in how planning can create regenerative settlements, create more symbiotic and just relationships between urban and rural in greenbelt /peri-urban landscapes - addressing key development forms such as low-impact settlements that build social and local economic capital, integrated with agroecology and agroforestry, creating regenerative livelihoods that feed us, build resilience and restore living bioregions. I'm also interested in localising decision-making and governance around these issues so people and nature get what they need, not developer shareholders. Is this event for me?
