Earlier this year, the U.S. Coast Guard Guard Red Team hit a major milestone — earning the Department of Defense (DoD) certification. This certification allows the service to independently conduct DoD-level cybersecurity assessments using the most advanced techniques and to partner with other military branches and U.S. Cyber Command to safeguard critical networks and systems. Even more impressive, the Coast Guard team achieved this certification in record time with a team of just 10 people! Read more about the Coast Guard Red team, its mission and what’s next for them. And see if you can spot OneZero’s Connor H. in the team picture!

Time to pop the champagne because the House Armed Services Committee just included an independent study on a Cyber Force within the United States Department of Defense in their NDAA Markup!🍾🥂 The DoD must evolve to meet the threats facing our nation, just like when the United States Air Force was added in 1947 and the United States Space Force in 2019. We recognize five war-fighting domains: land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace… but only four have their own dedicated service. Meanwhile, cyber threats are banging at our door, and the Department of Defense is still trying to find the right software to keep them out. 🖥️🔐 We know a Cyber Force won't magically cut through the red tape slowing down software deployment, but the very real threat to our cybersecurity deserves serious consideration. It's time to see if we need a dedicated Cyber Force to combat it. What are your thoughts on the addition of a Cyber Force? #CyberSecurity #NationalSecurity #CyberForce

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has opened registrations for its fifth annual President’s Cup #cybersecurity competition this month. Registration runs Jan. 3 to 23 for the Teams Competition and Jan. 3 – Feb. 6 for the Individuals Competition. Participants can compete as an individual, on a team of up to five members, or both. Teams can be made of individuals from one or more departments or agencies. Participation in the President’s Cup is limited to employees of the U.S. federal government, and they must register using a ‘.gov/.mil’ email address. This includes federal employees and uniformed service personnel from federal civilian agencies, United States Department of Defense active-duty military personnel, civilians, and those serving in a drilling reserve capacity in the Armed Forces Reserves or National Guard. The current job function does not need to be focused on cybersecurity. However, government contractors are not permitted to participate. #Cybersecurity #Cyber #Security #Event #Competition https://lnkd.in/gTjvxmZM

Automated Continuous Assessments are the only way forward if we want to keep pace. Point in time assessments can’t provide the necessary assurance and significantly delay mission access to leading tech. It’s the same issue in Commercial and Jeff Buss makes a great point.
Love the DoD's initiative to move to a more automated continuous assessment of Cyber/IT terrain. Well done Joint Force Headquarters - Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN)! Tools like Drata and Microsoft Purview Compliance Manager are making this possible in the commercial sector as well. https://lnkd.in/ebZbeywR

Budding IT support specialist | CompTIA Security+ | Cybersecurity advocate dedicated to teaching & helping others
With the establishment of the U.S. Space Force why shouldn’t there be a U.S. Cyber Force, given how prevalent cyber warfare plays in military operations. An additional factor to consider is the rise of domestic cybersecurity attacks this year that have had implications at the federal, state & municipal level, from financial theft to gaining access to critical infrastructure. Additionally, from cybersecurity specialists who have served, while there are plenty of professionals serving with advanced knowledge, much of the equipment, tools & technology are not. APTs and state-sponsored hackers are becoming more evasive and technologically-advanced everyday, underscoring the need to keep up with & outperform them. Providing an upgrade across the board would be beneficial in allowing personnel to combat cyber threats more efficiently & effectively! #uscyberforce #cyberforce #cyberwarfare #cybersecurity #cyberprotection #usmilitary #usarmedforces #cybermilitary #usdepartmentofdefense #dod
