If you are installing an Energy Storage system, why not add an SSS Clutch / SSS Gears and let the motor/generator operate as a Synchronous Condenser when not delivering active power. SSS Clutches are often a crucial part of long duration energy storage (LDES) solutions, and the large-scale compressed air energy storage (CAES) systems built in the 1970s have been successfully using SSS Clutches for 50 years. The SSS Clutch / SSS Gears allows the automatic connection and disconnection of the motor / generator from the prime mover. This enables the system to switch between energy storage mode and power generation mode, while all the time keeping the generator synchronised to the grid providing reactive power and rotating inertia for grid stability. Metering core should be designed in such a way that it should get #saturated at the time of heavy fault current following in primary winding and save the metering device from its damage. Protection: 1.Normal Protection: like E/F and O/C relay 2.Special Protection: like REF and differential relay 3. Accuracy of protection core may be moderate 4. Protection core should be designed in such a way that it should #not be #saturated at the time of heavy fault current following in the primary winding and can allow the fault current to the protection device for its appropriate action. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸: • Class of the CTs represent it's maximum error at 100℅ to 125℅ of it's #rated current. • 0.5 class CTs means that when 100℅ to 125℅ of the #rated current followed in primary then it's reading will be wrong by 0.5℅. Eg: For 250/1 ratio CTs , At 250A load- Current reading in the secondary winding may be between 250.005A to 249.995A (250+0.005&250-0.005) 2.Protection: 5P10&5P20 Where, 5 = Composite error P = Protection 10/20 = Accuracy limit factor • Normal protection: 5P10&5P20 class CTs 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸: 5P20 class CTs means that in case of fault situation when 20time the rated current will follow through the primary winding then it can sustain. It's core will not saturate up to this value. Eg: For 250/1 ratio 5P20 class CTs,Core will not get saturated for the fault current up to 250*20=5000A and the max composite error will be 5℅.(5000+0.05&5000-0.05)A #Special #protection: PS class CTs are designed for special unit scheme protection like differential and REF protection.
